Mini Beginning Sewing Camp June 2015

Laurel and her sewing bag and belt

Last week I had a shortened version of my Beginning Sewing Camp for a mom and her two daughters.  They had wanted to do camp the week of June 22 but it was already full.  I was able to have them come last week on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.  We had prior commitments for Wednesday and Friday so hence the shorter camp.

Madeline and her sewing bag and belt

The first day we worked on learning the machine basics and started on making their sewing bags.  On Tuesday they finished their sewing bags and belts and got started on their first projects.

Laurel and her almost finished nightshirt

Laurel chose to make a nightshirt from a print with the Eiffel Tower.  Madeline chose to make pants and mom opted to make some capris.

They worked very hard on their projects but didn't quite get them finished.  Mom did get the elastic in her capris so she will be able to help Madeline with her elastic.  Laurel just needed to finish her hems.  I explained how it was just like doing the sewing bag, folding and measuring, pinning and stitching.  Since they have a sewing machine at home I know they will be able to finish up.  They were planning on working on their projects at home after lunch.

I took my mom in to have her knee replaced on Wednesday.  Surgery went well and when I left her at around 4 that afternoon she was resting comfortably.  Yesterday my daughter and her two little ones went with me to visit my mom in the rehab place.  She hasn't done any walking yet but is getting up and having therapy several times a day.

We enjoyed a nice visit and dined on strawberry shortcake with berries fresh from our garden.  My strawberries are coming in like crazy right now.

End of After School Classes 2014-2015

Aviva and her square neck blouse

Michelle and her flannel pants
Grace and her purse

This week was the last of my after school classes for the year.  In Monday's class Michelle finished a pair of flannel pants and was working on a patchwork fleece throw.  Bella missed a few classes and didn't quite finish her purse.  Aviva finished her square neck blouse and was working on a patchwork quilt from her scraps.  Grace finished her purse and was also spending the last class working on a patchwork quilt from scraps.

Cara and her almost finished coat

In Tuesday's class Emily finished her pair of shorts.  She said she plans on wearing them over her swimsuit after getting out of the pool.  Christine missed a few classes so she wasn't able to finish her hobo tote See & Sew B6011.  She was really close though to finishing.  Ellen finished the blouse from Book 2 and customized it by making it a V-neck.  This one is for one of her sisters.  Cara is still working on her coat from Simplicity 1254.  She finally got all the outer pieces and lining pieces sewn together and then attached at the front.  She was so proud to model it at this stage.

Lindsey and her book 2 blouse

In Wednesday's class Lindsey finished her blouse from book 2 and Natalie was getting close to finishing her tank top.  Samantha and Reese both had to stop classes at the end of April due to other after school conflicts.  Samantha was working on a round neck blouse and Reese finished a pair of pants.

Hayley and her drop waist pants

In Thursday's class Sarah was almost done with her mini-shoulder purse.  She chose a stretch velour and another velour with fleece as a batting.  She had a lot of difficulty getting the fabric to behave.  It is going to be a sumptuous purse though when she finishes it.  Hayley made herself a pair of fleece drop waist pants to lounge around in.

It is sad saying goodbye to the girls after almost nine months.  Hopefully a lot of them will be returning in the fall.  Next week I start with summer sewing camps.
