Birthday T-shirts 2019

Race car t-shirt for Cltn

Birthday t-shirt time.  This year for the grandkids' birthdays I once again made them t-shirts.  Colton had picked out some fabric at Jo-Ann Fabrics that he liked.  He requested a long sleeve t-shirt this year.

One upside down sleeve

The only problem is that there wasn't quite enough fabric.  I opted to cut one sleeve upside down in order to make it work.  No-one really noticed and he loved the shirt so all is good.

Great color of ribbing

The neck ribbing is from my stash of neck bands I salvage from t-shirts when I make t-shirt quilts.  Looks almost like it was made for it.

Monkey t-shirt

I didn't have any cute girl print fabric in my stash for my granddaughter so I let her choose an embroidery design from my collection.  She chose this cute monkey from Designs by JuJu.

Monkey applique

She also chose the fabric she wanted for the applique.  She did want both a unicorn and a monkey but I told her she had to choose just one :-)

T-shirt for MTB

MTB is going to get this t-shirt made from a fun monster print I had bought before.  His neck ribbing is also a salvaged piece.

Cute monsters

I use the patterns from Kwik-Sew.  I do make the ribbing piece slightly larger as the moms were telling me they were hard to put on and take off.

Striped tee, chambray skirt, print sleeveless tank, grey camp tee

Recently we went to Spain to participate in the ITU World Competition.  My husband and I do duathlons.  The trip started in Pontrevedra and then we toured Madrid, Cordoba, Seville and then joined Trek Travel for a week of biking in the mountains of southern Spain.
Navy peplum tank, navy long sleeve tee, grey long sleeve tee, grey twist front tee

I needed enough clothes for two and a half weeks plus all my race gear and riding clothing so I needed to pack light.
Blush jeans, jeans with laces, olive Pixie pants, grey jeans

I chose a color palette of grey, blush, olive and navy/denim.  Since the weather would still be cool in the morning and evenings I packed mostly long pants though I did include a skort and a dress.

Neutral scarf/wrap, denim jacket, grey hoodie, blush cardigan

I had 8 tops, two sleeveless, three short sleeve and three long sleeve to cover all the different temps.  I had 4 pants and a skort for the bottoms.

White flip flops, grey sneakers, silver flats, white sneakers, running shoes

Four outer pieces plus 5 pairs of shoes, one of which were my running shoes for the race, completed my wardrobe.

Navy swing dress, navy skort

Because we also had to bring bike helmets, shoes and pedals plus all our riding outfits I really tried to keep things to a minimum, even the jewelry I brought with.

Multi-colored bracelets and necklace, silver bracelet, 2 pairs of earrings, pendant necklace and pretty earrings I bought

Here are a few of the outfits I wore.  Excuse the quality of the photos as sometimes the hotel lighting was really bad.

On the way to Spain

Long sleeve grey tee with a tank top under for added warmth on the plane.  Grey jeans, blush cardigan, grey sneakers and the awesome scarf/wrap that my daughter gave me for Christmas.  It is very lightweight but is big enough to use as a blanket if needed.

In Pontrevedre
Wearing striped tee, with jeans, grey sneakers and blush cardigan.  I had my Travelon purse with me.  So nice with RFID protection and slash proof straps.

Heading home
Navy long sleeve tee, jeans, blush cardigan and running shoes.

Flat lay of another outfit
Grey twist front tee, skort, blush cardigan and white sneakers.

I also included a pair of pajamas, swimsuit, under garments (made of wool so lightweight and non-stinky), compression socks and a couple of pairs of no-show socks.  I think I could have maybe gotten it into a carry-on if I didn't have all of the other things I needed for the race and bike trip.

Travel Accessories

Sweetpea Pod for our Fitbit chargers

We recently returned from a two and a half week trip to Spain.  To keep all the cords from our electronics organized, I decided to make some organizers.

Pattern

First I made some Sweetpea Pods from Lazy Girls Designs.  They used 10 inch squares.  I looked through my zippers and then found fabric in my stash to match.  These went together quite easily.  I did embroider on them before putting together so I would know what was in each one.  I just used the lettering that is built into my machine, nothing fancy needed.

Sweetpea Pods

I did flip the colors to be used on the outside, two 10 inch squares make two pods.

Sweetpea Pods embroidered

I needed a couple of bigger ones though so I pulled out another pattern, Bendy Bags again from Lazy Girl Designs.

Pattern

I didn't think these instructions were as easy to follow, maybe I was just getting tired.  These used fat quarters.  Again I found zippers in my stash and pulled fat quarters to match.  Also because of cutting away some of the fabric, I had a harder time envisioning where I should put the embroidery.

Bendy Bag for the iPod

All in all though I had a ton of fun picking out zippers and fabric so make these and they did go together pretty quickly.

They really did help to keep the cords and earbuds separated and accessible.
