Jacket Challenge #7

Our challenge for the month of January was to recycle a sweater. This is one I had but as you can see it is way too baggy. I loved the color and feel of the Coldwater Creek sweater so I hadn't been able to part with it. I took the sweater apart at the side seams and removed the sleeves. I left the collar and shoulders intact and used the Capri Jacket pattern to reshape the body. I cut 1/2" strips of Aqua Mesh Plus and applied them to the cut edges to prevent them from unraveling or stretching out of shape. I sewed the seams with a straight stitch and then overcast the edges on the sewing machine.

Found a piece of sand washed rayon in my stash that I layered with interlining and a cotton batik from my stash. Quilted it together using a decorative stitch on my sewing machine.

Cut my sleeves from this as the sweater sleeves were not long enough. Finished the raw edges with binding from the rayon.

No need for buttons or buttonholes as I used the fronts as they were. Just washed it then to remove the stabilizer. Since there was still sweatering left I made a purse using Linda McGehee's book, The Perfect Bag. I fused a knit interfacing to the sweatering and then a fusible fleece. Used Clover's Create-A-Strap and the rayon for the bag strap. The cotton batik was used for the lining. Found some yarn in my stash that I braided to create a loop for the button closure. Now I have a well fitted jacket and matching purse.

Jacket Challenge #6

Here is Jacket #6. Again using the Capri Jacket pattern from Textile Studio. This time I combined it with Grainline Gear 'My Favorite Things' vest pattern. I copied the the front styling but without any piecing.

I sewed a strip of the patterned fabric in the back with zipper 'piping' on either side. The zipper was from a jacket that I had to replace the zipper. The front was the patterned fabric with solid sleeves.

I again cut a larger back facing and added my monogram. For the hem I used a facing instead of turning up a hem.

All items were from my stash, metal buttons, crinkle linen that I had bought 7 1/2 yards on sale back in '07 and a handwoven(?) that I had gotten in a grab bag at some time that was only 34" wide. Not sure I like how this one turned out though.

Jacket Challenge #5

Here we go with jacket #5. This time I combined the Capri Jacket pattern from Textile Studio with the Swing Jacket pattern from Country in the City. I copied the back with a yoke and pleat. Added cuffs to the sleeves and eliminated the v-neck and curved the top of the front of the jacket the same as the bottom.

Added a contrast 'placket' on the front right. Cream linen was used for the fronts, yoke and yoke facing. Tan linen was used for the 'placket', sleeves and lower back. A black, tan and cream plaid was used for the pleat inset and cuffs. Black buttons on the front and two buttons combined on top of the pleat in the back.

Since I still had fabric left I made a shell with the cream fabric with tan raglan 'sleeves' Sewed some cream trim over the seams on the front. I used Great Copy 1260 for the shell.

The best part was once again, everything I used was from my stash. The fabric had been bought to make some kind of outfit so long ago I can't even remember what I planning on using it for. The buttons on the back were in a jumble of mismatched buttons that I inherited from my grandmother.

I only have about 10 large containers of fabric stash left to try to use. How many jackets will I make? Not sure but it has been fun, watch for more jackets in the next few weeks.

Jacket Challenge #4

This is jacket number 4 from the Capri Jacket pattern from Textile Studios. This time I combined it with an old McCall's pattern, 7255. It was a vest pattern that I had made several years ago and I really liked the asymmetrical opening. The fabric was once again from my stash, a piece I had picked up at Libertyville Sewing Center. It was a pieced cotton so I looks like I did a lot of work but I didn't. I traced the new front onto the original front piece and also drafted new facing pieces.

I also drafted a larger back facing and added my initials. Then it was constructed as usual. Sewed the seams, serged them together and pressed to the back. Sewed the facing pieces together, serged the edge and sewed into place. Went together very quickly. Then added snaps for closure with lily buttons from my stash for decoration.

Then there was leftover fabric so I decided to make a matching purse. I used a pattern, The New Yorker by Purses by Design, I had picked up at the ASG conference in LA this past summer. I made view C and used handles I had bought at JoAnn Fabrics in the past. I had great difficulty sewing and turning the purse with these hard handles only to be told later that the handle can be unscrewed from the metal holder. That would have made life so much easier. Always learning something new.

Jacket Challenge #3

Here is jacket number three from Textile Studio Capri Jacket pattern. Over ten years ago I bought some winter white wool and lining to make a jacket. I had made an original one but shrunk it when I accidentally washed it. I never got around to making it and when I was looking at the pattern I was going to use I am glad I never did. It was a boxy, unstructured jacket and would certainly not fit now.

Some more digging through the stash revealed some lace, buttons and Ultrasuede strips that I was going to use to decorate a vest. I had bought these in 1993 (receipt was still with the items). Also in the stash was a beautiful needlepoint iris I had stitched out, again bought in 1993. I figure having aged almost 18 years they were ready to be used ;-)

I first centered the iris on the back of the jacket, stitched it down and then added a 'frame' of Ultrasuede. Added a lace strip down the front and the other piece of lace was used to make a 'collar' for the back of the jacket.

To line the jacket using a pattern that didn't have a lining I just cut the lining the same as the jacket. Then I finished the facing pieces with a turned under edge and just laid them on top of the lining pieces and stitched them down. I stitched together the jacket pieces and the lining pieces so I now had 2 'jackets'. I sewed them together around the facing pieces, turned and understitched. Then serged the edges together and hemmed as usual. Not the most conventional way to line a jacket but it was quick and easy. Added the buttons and then used snaps for closure because I didn't want to have to try to button through with all those different shapes of buttons that I had.

Jacket Challenge #2

Here is jacket #2 made from Textile Studio's Capri Jacket pattern. I had made a jacket several years ago from sweaters I bought at a thrift store. However with the change in styles it was too boxy especially since I had lost some weight. Also the lining that I had used shrunk, even after pre-washing it. I carefully took off the lycra trim that I had used to bind the edges and then took apart the jacket at the side seams and shoulders and removed the sleeves.

I also removed the buttons and snaps to be used again. I then recut the front and back using the pattern but kept the same neckline shape from the original jacket. The lining which was a rayon batik, was not worth saving. Even though only a few years old it was already starting to show wear. I dug through my stash and found a large enough piece of black knit that I used for the lining instead.

Now for the sleeves. Because the original jacket had dropped shoulders the old sleeves were too short for the set-in sleeve on the new jacket. Going through my scraps I found that I had saved the extra pieces of sweaters that I hadn't used (probably thinking I would do something with them). I cut pieces off that had the knit ribbed edge and used that to lengthen the sleeve. I then did not have to bind that edge but I did have to attach the knit lining to the sleeve above the cuff with small hand stitches.

After sewing the shoulder and side seams of the sweatering and the lining I placed them wrong sides together and bound the edge with the lycra strip I had removed earlier. I then set in the sleeve (with its lining attached) and stitched it together. Lastly I replaced the snaps and buttons that I had removed from the first jacket. It was a challenge to remove the the lycra strips originally but it was worth the effort.

Jacket Challenge #1

For the next few weeks I am going to share with you the jackets I made for a challenge to use one pattern multiple times, changing it up every time. Thanks to Colleen for coming up with the challenge for our neighborhood ASG group.

The jacket pattern I chose was the Capri Jacket from Textile Studio. I had made it a couple of times before and loved how it fit. I found a hot pink wool in my stash. When I went to press it I found several creased ridges that would not press or steam out. I couched some yarns over the creases and added some to the sleeve also. Looked liked it was planned all along:-)

Cut out the pattern according to the directions. For seam finishes (since it is an unlined jacket) I used a technique I found in Sew News Oct/Nov 2010. I cut 1/4" bias strips and serged them on with invisible thread in the loopers and matching thread in the needle. Since the pattern called for a 3/8" seam allowance, pressed to one side, I finished the seams after each was sewn together and then pressed to one side. Used the same technique for the hem and facing edges.

Covered the shoulder pads with the same fabric and added buttons I had gotten from New Zealand.

Next up was a purse to match.

Used Trace and Create by Nancy Zieman, Monterey bag, view C. I added pockets to the inside and Create-a-strap for the purse strap. I used a narrower one than was called for in the pattern (because I didn't read the directions correctly). The lining is a turquoise cotton from my stash.

I covered cord with the print fabric and used it on the top of the outer pocket. Used the same fabric for the strip that finishes off the top of the purse on the inside.

I also embroidered a trapunto rose on the outer purse that I got from Advanced Embroidery. The only problem with the purse is that it is softer than I like. Should have used a stiffer interfacing. Over all though I loved the ease of the purse pattern and definitely need to try it again.

Where is Winter?

Winter has not made much of an appearance this year. Except for the ice one Thursday when I slid and hit the curb and damaged the car, it has been mild here. That is all supposed to end this evening though as rain, sleet and snow are expected to hit. Oh well, I have enjoyed being able to bike outside this late into the season.

This is a purse I made to go with a jacket I had made earlier. I made 6 jackets using the same base pattern as a challenge from our neighborhood ASG group. I bought the purse pattern and supplies while at the ASG National Convention in LA back in August. The handles were in my stash. I do not recommend using them with this pattern as I could not sew the top on the machine. No way were those handles allowing me to turn the purse. Had to sew it by hand, turn right side out and them I was able to topstitch by machine.

Two new girls joined Monday's class, Nicole and Hayley. They learned the basics of the machine and started sewing on fabric after finishing the paper practice sheets. Julia has just the hems on her blouse and Lauren has only the tie to finish for her robe. Anna is nearly finished with her tank top, Izzy is starting a pair of pajama pants as well as Katie. Meghan is so close to finishing her banded top.

Now off to a Growth Club meeting that lasts all day. Next week I will let you know all about it and also start sharing the 6 jackets from last year.

Welcome to 2012

John and I celebrated the new year with our friends Cheryl and Leo at Dress Up and Dance. It is a local alcohol-free dance club. They had DJs spinning tunes, some line dancing lessons and snacks to munch on. There was even a 'champagne' toast at midnight. In all it was great fun. In the morning we went for breakfast to Egg Harbor Cafe thanks to a gift certificate I had gotten from Anna, Meghan and Katie. Their strawberry-orange juice was delicious. Then later it was a run followed by watching football.

Worked all week and I finally finished the panels I had been working on. They turned out great. I would love to see a photo of them hanging. Here is a close up look at that pleats. I used the pattern of the sewn on trim to determine the spacing of the pleats.

Finished some repairs on torn pants and a name on a backpack. Now on to the alterations for an upcoming beauty pageant. Classes start back this afternoon with the girls and I start with more private lessons on Tuesday next week.

Another great Action Coach group session this morning with more 'homework' to do. Next week is a big Action Coach Growth Club program. Looking forward to even more ideas to help grow my business.

John and I planned out our race program for 2012. He got up early Saturday morning to sign up for the Cary half marathon in March. It is going to be his first one. There is a large group from TFP, where we train, that is going to be running it. I will be there to cheer them on. I plan on doing half-marathons in Nashville and in Highland Park with my first full marathon in September in Milwaukee. We are all signed up for a duathlon in Pleasant Prairie in June. Then he is going to do his first triathlon in July/August and we will finish up the year with a longer duathlon down in San Antonio in November. Going to be very busy training all year.

One last photo from our Christmas celebrations. We got together with his side of the family on Friday at our daughter's house. We have one more party coming up, Twelfth Night, at a neighbor's home and then time to buckle down and lose these last five pounds.

Happy New Year

It is hard to believe that a new year is almost here. Especially more so when you go out for a walk on Christmas day and see dandelions blooming. After all this is northern Illinois and usually we have snow on the ground this time of year.

After spending the weekend before Christmas with several celebrations, Christmas weekend itself was a quiet time for my hubby and me. We spent some time on Christmas Eve at a neighbor's house celebrating with friends. Then it was midnight Mass at St Paul the Apostle Church. Once again beautiful music and surroundings to celebrate such a holy day. After sleeping in on Christmas morning we took a walk where we saw the dandelions blooming. Such a strange sight. Then we just relaxed and made some homemade pizza and watched my Packers beat his Bears. One of us was happy anyway.

I have been working on the panels with attached valances. The fabric has a trim stitched in a loop pattern. It has been a challenge matching the loops for the seams but I think it is coming along nicely. Note to self, check out fabric before quoting a price next time.

Fabric is all ordered for next client and her panels. I can't wait for it to show up. This afternoon I am meeting with a client/friend to discuss making a wedding dress for her daughter. This will be the first time making a wedding dress for a client although I have made them for my sisters, my daughter's best friend and my daughter.

I am planning the summer sewing camps and looking forward to starting back up with the after school classes. We will have two new students so that should be fun also.

Merry Christmas

We celebrated Christmas with my side of the family on Saturday. It was great fun. We were able to skype with my sister and her family in Arizona while opening presents. Enjoyed lots of great food, fun and played some games. Many thanks to my hubby who helped pull it all together while I was busy working. I did make grandma's rum cheesecake, which he has been doing for the past 15+ years. Of course I used the wrong pan and it took hours to bake but everyone that had some said it tasted just fine.

Finished the kitchen valance. Had some questions regarding the final construction but with help from the CHF forum I got it all done. I think it turned out great and someone is going to have a nice addition to their kitchen window for the holidays.

Also finished the round tablecloth and now onto the panels with attached valance. Meeting with a client tomorrow to finalize fabric selection. Then it is time for some dress alterations and other projects.

Just came from another great session with our Action Coach group. Learning so much but it is a lot of hard work/home work also. Going to keep this short so I can get back to work. Happy Holidays everyone.

Working Furiously

This is an ottoman a client rescued from the trash. The colors were certainly not her style but she saw great potential in it. We discussed a slipcover versus reupholstering. After some discussion in with she stated she has two little ones we decided a washable slipcover would be much more practical. She found some great linen like fabric and washed a sample of it. She liked how it looked after washing it so then it was time to start the fabrication process.

I washed the fabrics and then using the circular template I had just bought from Rowley I made a pattern for the top. I cut a base circle from lining and then quarter circles of the fabric, matching the print on each one. This formed a neat kaleidoscope effect on the top. The skirt was also cut into quarters and an invisible zipper added for ease in taking on and off.

I removed the old fringe and staples and pounded in those that wouldn't come out so no little fingers could get hurt. Lastly I replaced the bottom cambric and the client has a 'new' ottoman that is just her style.

Now on to the rest of my projects. I have a kitchen valance, a round table cloth and some panels to make. Need to keep working.

My hubby and I just finished a ten week weight loss program. He lost 14 lbs and 5.5% body fat. I lost 12.5 lbs and 5.5% body fat. We both want to lose a few more pounds before we start training hard again in January. He is looking to run his first half marathon in the spring. This is from a guy who a few years ago complained that running more than a mile was too hard. I'm so proud of all he has accomplished. I plan on running my first marathon in the fall and we are both going to do a series of duathlons this year for the first time. He is also going to learn to swim and attempt a triathlon. We have a busy 2012 coming up.

Saturday we are going to celebrate Christmas with my side of the family so we have lots of preparations to get done by then. I have to wrap presents and bake another couple of batches of cookies. Need to finish cleaning the basement and bake a cheesecake and coffeecake.

Holidays Fast Approaching

Izzy finished her sewing bag. She is looking forward to making a belt and starting her first clothing project from the Kids Can Sew book in January. Anna is almost finished with her sports blouse, Meghan is getting closer to finishing her banded top and Katie has just the hems on her mom's night shirt. The girls and I are taking a break from lessons until January.

The duvet cover if finished.

The mitered corners at first gave me a bit of a challenge mentally but they turned out great.

Now on to a slipcover for an ottoman, drapery panels and tablecloth.

Last night we decorated the tree in the living room and I also mixed cookies. A lot of the gifts have been ordered so now is the time for wrapping, baking and the final cleaning and decorating of the basement.

Need to sign off to get some work done.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

Hoping everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Now on to Christmas. Started decorating the house for Christmas on Friday. I decorate almost every room of the house with the exception of the laundry room. We have 4 full size fake trees and get 1 real one each year for the living room. Most rooms have at least a small tree and creche in them as seen in the photo from our bedroom. Next up is the baking and gift buying.

We kicked off our holiday season by attending the tree lighting ceremony in downtown Grayslake. It's always fun to watch the kids' reactions to seeing Santa pull up on the fire truck and then light the tree. We follow that with shopping in the stores and having dinner. This year we decided to eat at Something's Brewing. We enjoyed their Buffalo chicken salads followed by samples of the delicious toffee from Uniquely Sweet.

This will be our last week of class. As the holidays approach, the girls just get too busy. Julia made great progress on her round neck blouse and Lauren is nearly finished with her robe.

Anna is almost done with her sport blouse, Izzy was absent due to going to visit family, Meghan is getting so close to finishing her banded top and Katie is working really hard on the nightshirt for her mom.

I am working an a duvet cover being fashioned from a quilt that a client made while also ordering hardware and fabric for other clients. There will be some beautiful homes this Christmas.

My hubby and I have been part of a program, Elite Body Composition, to lose weight that started in September. We have 2 more weeks left in the program and we both have managed to reach our goals even with two Thanksgiving celebrations. We both want to lose a few more pounds still but were very happy to have gotten this far. Many thanks to Matt and the coaches at TFP for pushing us all. The Sunday afternoon bike rides haven't always been the most pleasant but we survived.

Happy Thanksgiving

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. We celebrated Thanksgiving this past Sunday with my husband's two sisters and a fiancee, our three children, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, three of the parent-in-laws and my mom. We started the day with the Turkey Trot in Lincolnwood where I helped my daughter-in-law finish her first 10K. She did very well.

That was followed by breakfast at iHop and then back to the house for showers and dinner prep. A few hours watching the Packers win was followed by the rest of the guests arriving and a great time was had by all. We finished the night with a few rousing games of Smart Ass.

In the sewing classes, Julia is working on her round neck blouse, already has it sewn together at the shoulders after finishing all the zigzagging. Lauren has the pockets on her robe and the back and fronts together and the facing attached.

Anna has finished her car organizer and has started on a sports blouse, Izzy is working on her sewing bag, Meghan is getting closer to finishing her banded top and Katie finished her peasant blouse and started on a nightshirt for her mom.

I finished the pillows, had a consultation with a new client and will do some shopping with her next week. Had some business coaching sessions also. Have some 'homework' that I need to do for them. Will be working hard today so I can enjoy taking off the next couple of days.

Holiday Crunch Time

The holidays are fast approaching and I have lots of projects to get finished. That is both good and bad. Just finding some time to get into the workroom has been a problem lately. Multiple meetings in a week really impacts my production time. Oh well, this is something I just need to work on. The family room pillows are almost done, then some hemming, ottoman slipcover, valances with grommets and a duvet cover. I do love what I do.

Julia finished her back slit denim skirt and has started cutting out a round neck blouse to go with it. Lauren started on sewing her robe. She started by embellishing the pockets with raw edge applique flowers cut from the capri fabric. Anna missed class last week, Izzy started her sewing bag, Meghan is working on her banded blouse and Katie is almost done with her peasant blouse.

Also had a couple of private sewing lessons this week. It is fun to see the adults as excited as the girls.

Need to start working on dinner for Sunday. We are celebrating Thanksgiving with family. There will be 15 for dinner. Should be a good time. John and I celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary this past weekend by staying at a B&B in Woodstock and going to see Pirates of Penzance at the Woodstock Opera house. The B&B we stayed at was the Royal Victorian which was used as the Cherry Street Inn in the movie Groundhog Day. At the time of the movie it was a private residence and just recently was made into a B&B. It is a lovely place. We had dinner at the Woodstock Public House. The loaded baked potato soup was so good!!! We might need to drive out there again.

Finding Time

Met with my client again last week to finalize the pillows for her family room. Here is the first one for her brown leather recliner. The four large pillows will all be the same black fabric with covered cord of this stripe. The backs are going to be sewn from her old pillows as they are the same fabric as the couch and love seat. The two smaller pillows are out of a brown print and will have covered cord from the fabric of the larger pillows. So happy we were able to come to a final decision. Now she is just looking for a rod for the kitchen valance and I can finish that.

Meeting with someone next week who is looking for window treatments for her living room and dining room. I just need to find some time to get these projects all sewn as I also have an ottoman to slipcover and another kitchen valance to make.

Having some minor surgery tomorrow so that is going to take time away from work.

Julia is just putting the finishing touches on her back slit denim skirt and will be starting a new project next week. Lauren got her robe all cut out and will be able to start sewing next week. We are discussing the possibilities for embellishment. Anna ran out of bobbin thread as she was putting in the last few stitches on her car organizer. She will finish it at home and start on something new next time. Izzy picked out the fabric for her sewing bag and will start on cutting it out today. Meghan is working on putting the facing onto her banded top and Katie is working on her peasant blouse. I will be offering a Saturday sewing session during our December break where they can make gifts for their family or friends.

Did the Hot Chocolate 15K on Saturday and was pleased with my time. It was a cool and breezy day with plenty of sunshine so it made for a great race. Next up is the 10K Lincolnwood Turkey Trot on the 20th. Not sure how well I will be able to run. Hopefully I will be helping my new daughter-in-law complete her first 10K.

Had another Action Coach group meeting this morning so I have lots of 'homework' to do, so I had better finish this up and get back to work.

Keeping Busy

Better late than never, a happy Halloween. Hope you all had a good one. We were light on trick or treaters this year so I have lots of pretzels and graham Goldfish left. Oh well they will keep until I have my summer camps when the kids will enjoy them at treat time.
Sewing classes are going well. We canceled class for Monday due to Halloween. I figured my girls would rather be out getting candy and I wouldn't have to listen to the doorbell ring while I was trying to teach. Anna is almost done with her car organizer. She still won't show it to her mom until she is all finished. Isabelle started last week. She has some experience with a sewing machine so she is moving right along. I think Meghan finally has the band on right on her blouse. She has been so frustrated with it but has kept working at it. Katie is putting the elastic in her peasant blouse and should be finished soon.
Finished some vests for Adventure Princesses and some much needed hemming for my daughter. It's funny how the family stuff keeps slipping to the bottom of the pile. Now on to some pillows and a slipcover for an ottoman. I'm thinking of putting in an invisible zipper to make it easier to take on and off for washing. The client has two little girls and it might need to be washed frequently. Here is a before photo.

I met with my trainer yesterday evening to discuss how 2010 went and plans for 2011. I am losing weight and body fat nicely with the Elite Body Composition class my husband and I are doing. I attained my goal of doing a half marathon in under two hours in Nashville in April and my hubby and I did our first duathlon in June followed by a second one in October after getting ourselves some road bikes this August. Next year I am planning to run my first marathon and do several sprint duathlons with my hubby followed by an olympic distance one in November. Sounds like it could be a challenging year but with Lauri's guidance I should be able to do it.

What a Dreary Day?

The girls are doing so well this year with their sewing. Here is Katie showing off her back slit denim skirt. She was so proud of it she had worn it to school that day. She is working on a top to go with it currently. Julia is working on her skirt and Lauren finished her tank top and is starting on a robe now. Anna is just about finished with the car organizer for her aunt and Meaghan is working on her banded blouse. She has had many challenges getting the banding around the neck but I think she has it on now. I have a new girl staring with us this afternoon, Isabelle. I'm sure the girls will warmly welcome her. I am looking forward to meeting Isabelle and her mom. Here is a photo of the button Katie chose for her skirt.

I met today with a new group led by Monty of Action Coach. I will be joining them for sessions every other week to help build my business. Look out world, here I come.

Here is a photo of a Roman shade I saw in browsing the web. I am going to use it as my inspiration to fabricate a faux Roman shade for the sewing studio.

So even though the weather has definitely taken a turn for the worse, my prospects are looking sunny and I am looking forward to all that is going to be happening.

I attended Windows Palooza yesterday. It was put on by the Chicagoland chapter of WCAA. What a wonderful day. In the morning I took a drawing class with Jackie Von Tobel. Now I can't hardly draw a straight line with a ruler so this was going to be a stretch for me. Jackie was so patient with everyone. She broke down the treatments into basic elements and then using graph paper we started drawing them out. I drew a pinch pleat drapery, a goblet pleat, a gathered treatment, swags, jabots and finally a side panel with a tieback. She also explained how our renderings would actually look in fabric. I have to say that my drawings really did look like the treatment they represented.
Then on to the vendor floor. We received a punch card for the vendors to mark off and when they were full they were placed in a basket for the big door prize at the end of the evening. I talked to lots of different reps and came home with tons of samples and ideas.
There was a wonderful lunch followed by my afternoon class with Deb Barrett. She had a trunk show of lots of new ideas for window treatments plus ideas of how to fabricate them. She just amazes me with everything she comes up with. Here is another photo of some of the things I saw.

Then it was back to the vendor floor with more visits and some short demos. Prizes were being given away throughout the day and then during dinner, which was also very good, the majority of them were awarded. I won a gift certificate to one of my favorite suppliers so I was very excited.

More Beautiful Fall Weather

Well the weather has been great for the past week. Let's hope it holds out until the weekend when John and I are doing our second duathlon. We went out and rode the bike course last Sunday. It has a few good hills in there. Did a trail half marathon with my daughter on Saturday. It did not go very well. Things were great the first half but by mile 10 I was ready to walk. I have done many half marathons but I just didn't have it in me for this one. I never did walk but I did send my daughter on ahead. She finished about a minute and a half before me. I have been considering doing my first marathon next year, now I'm not so sure.

I finished another jacket from the challenge to make one pattern 10 different ways. This time I combined the Capri Jacket pattern from Textile Studio with Swing Jacket from Country in the City. I copied the back with the yoke and pleat, added cuffs to the sleeves and straightened the side seams. I also eliminated the v-neck and curved the top of the front the same as the bottom. I added a contrasting 'placket' to the right front. The button on the back is actually two buttons combined. I had enough fabric left over that I made a matching shell from Great Copy 1260. And the best part is that it was all from stash again!

In class, Julia is making good progress on her back slit denim skirt and Lauren is working on her tank top. She had wanted to embroider something on it but she chose such a flimsy knit that I told her it probably wouldn't hold the stitching well. Anna missed class last week, Meghan is working on her banded blouse and Katie started on her peasant blouse. She was proudly wearing her back slit denim skirt that she had finished last week.

Finished the embroidery for 2 Hot 2 Handle Glass last week and now am working on some pillows and a kitchen valance. Just lost a project because the client didn't want to drive 30-45 minutes to get to me. Oh well I need to work on getting some more work onto the table now.

Beautiful Fall Weather

As they say about Chicago, if you don't like the weather just wait a few minutes and it will change. Last week was cold and rainy, this week has been sunny and in the 70's. I have a half marathon on Saturday so I am hoping that the weather will hold.

I have included some photos of the items the girls are making in class. Julia finally finished her nightshirt. She says she likes to take her time and enjoy the process. I like to get something done and move on to the next exciting project. To each his own I guess. Lauren got the trim on her capris and started on a tank top to match. Anna continues to work on the car organizer for her aunt while Meghan is working on a banded top and Katie is finishing her back slit denim skirt.

I have just about finished with the embroidery for 2 Hot 2 Handle Glass. One more jacket back to do. Working on some throw pillows for a client. She is coming by today with the fabric for her kitchen window. I can't wait to see what she found. She was so excited to have found something she really loved that she has pushed ahead to do it even though it was originally at the bottom of her list. I love it when clients get excited about finding just that right fabric.

My hubby and I have started a new class to lose some weight and body fat. Now that the racing season is just about over it is time to go into calorie deficit mode. There are about 12 of us in class so it should be interesting. After weigh in, body fat measurements and a short talk we hit the trails on our bikes for about a ten mile ride, slow fat burning speed. It will be a challenge as the temps drop and the days get shorter.

I Need Some Sunshine

It has been gloomy and raining for the past five days. On Saturday, Jennifer and I got in our 11 mile run with only a little rain. On Sunday when hubby and I went out for a 25 mile bike ride it started to rain. We decided to keep going but then the lightning started. We didn't want to chance any problems with that so we hightailed it home. Only about 3 miles from the house but it started to come down in buckets. We took the main roads back to the house risking the traffic to get home more quickly. Of course it stopped raining by the time we got back but we were too soaked to want to go back out. I haven't been able to get to the vegetable plot for the past few days either cuz of all the rain. I'm hoping the pumpkins are doing well and maybe I will still have some good tomatoes when I do finally get a chance to get there.

We enjoyed pasta with homemade tomato sauce made with veggies from the garden on Sunday. We are trying a new thing here now with two married children. I would like to get together once a month for a family dinner. I was telling them we could celebrate birthdays, help each other with yard work, watch football or enjoy the beach. I will also let our son in Iowa know the dates so if he has a free weekend he could maybe join us. I miss seeing him more regularly. It was great to have him home for a few days for the youngest one's wedding a couple of weeks ago.
In sewing classes, Julia is almost finished with her nightshirt, Lauren is just getting ready to put the lace trim on her capris, Anna is cutting out a car organizer for her aunt, Meghan finished her ruffle skirt and will start on something new this afternoon while Katie is almost finished with her back slit denim skirt.
I am working on a valance for a laundry room and just sent off some fabric estimates to another client for treatments in their family room/eating area and dining room. Looking forward to getting started on these projects.

I finished another jacket for myself. Our challenge in my neighborhood ASG group has been to take a pattern we like and make it several different ways. For the latest one I combined the Capri Jacket pattern from Textile Studio with an old vest pattern from McCall's, 7255. The fabric and buttons are all from my stash. I am hoping to reduce my stash by another bin soon. Of course as soon as I do I will probably find more fabric I can't live without ;-)

Fall is Here

Things are starting to settle down. The wedding is over, classes are started and work is picking up. The happy couple is back from their honeymoon in Belize where they had a good time. Some interesting stories I guess that we will hear on Sunday when the family comes for dinner and football.

After school classes are back in session. I have Lauren and Julia on Mondays and Anna, Meghan and Katie on Wednesdays. We have talked about them modeling in ASG's 2012 fashion show and luncheon. They are all so excited. They are starting to figure out what they want to model. Julia is finishing up her nightshirt, Lauren is making some capris and she found some really neat trim to put on them. Anna is finishing her tank top, Meghan finished up her ruffle skirt and Katie is working on her back slit denim skirt. We are talking more about fitting and customizing patterns.
Finished sewing on all the patches for the Adventure guides/princesses vests for their big event this past weekend. I just had a customer drop off a bunch of items to get embroidered with her company's logo. Have a meeting with another client on Saturday for window treatments. Good to keep busy.

Another Wedding is Over

Here is the newest happy couple. My son and his fiancee were joined in marriage on Saturday. The weather was beautiful and so was the couple. Her uncle married them at St Gregory the Great church in the city. It is a lovely old church. The reception was held at The Onion Pub and Brewery in Barrington. The food was great but the time seemed to go much too quickly. The centerpieces were gorgeous. I have attached a photo of them also.

I did get all the sewing done that I needed to get finished. My mom's dress looked so much better with the alterations. I got my dress hemmed but I wish I had had time to add some bra keeper straps so I wouldn't have had to pin in the straps. The quilt got all finished and wrapped for the big day. Here is a photo.

I am back to work, sewing patches on vests for a couple of different groups. They start with their activities this weekend so everyone is calling to get them done. Also working on a laundry room bench cushion and then will start the valance.
Classes started back on Monday. Lauren is making a pair of capris and Julia forgot that Monday was our first day back. She should be joining us next week. The other girls start this afternoon. Looking forward to working with them again.

Upcoming Wedding

With our son's wedding on Saturday and the holiday this past weekend, not much has been going on in my business. The one thing I am doing is altering a dress for my mom for the wedding. Even though it was a petite I still had to shorten it 4 inches. Also the shoulders were way too big. The princess line of the dress fell at her shoulder line and the sleeve cap was 2-3 inches down her arm. Of course the dress is lace with a lining so I had to remove the sleeve, undo the shoulder seams and then remove two inches from the front and back at the princess line. The lace and lining are stretch fabric so they are being a pain but I think the finished dress will look so much better that it will be worth it. Next up is shortening my dress. I just need it up about a half inch, not much but just a little so it doesn't catch on my heels when I walk. Also I am putting the binding on a quilt for my son and his wife. I picked it up last week from the quilter. Donna did such a great job. She really turned my fairly basic quilt into a work of art. I will post some pictures next week after I give it to them, just in case they might see this.
Next up are several small projects for a client. First will be a cushion and valance for her laundry room. Then several pillows for her family room that will inject some much needed color. She also found some great fabric for the kitchen that is open to the family room. After looking at several different pictures of window treatments she found one she just loves. I ordered the patterns and am looking forward to getting started on the projects.
My hubby and I picked up new road bikes last week. We are now practicing on using the clips and the different gear shifting. We will be doing a duathlon in October. It will be interesting to see how it compares to the one we did in June for fun.

Summer Winding Down

Well summer is winding down. I can already feel it in the cooler nights, a much welcome relief. That means that my after school sewing sessions are starting soon. I will start again the week after Labor Day. I have two girls in my Monday class and three in my Wednesday class. There is still room if anyone wants to sign up. The girls have so much fun and I look forward to their enthusiasm every week. I want to start something new with them this year. I would like them to prepare to be in a fashion show next October for our ASG group. Every year our Chicago chapter has a fashion show luncheon. We alternate between the north side and the south side of the city. In 2012 the luncheon will be up this way again so I would like to encourage my students to get ready to 'strut their stuff' next year. I think they will like having a goal of some kind.

With that in mind I think I will also plan a camp for the summer that will involve them making an outfit with a matching purse for them to be able to model also. I am also planning a winter break camp so the girls (or boys) can make gifts for the holidays.

I finished up a set of seat cushions for a kitchen nook. The client was thrilled. They make for a great little place for her to enjoy her morning coffee. Next up are pillows for a family room to brighten up a rather dull room. I love being able to help people transform their ideas into reality and make a house a home. What can I help you do?

ASG Conference Reviewed

I went to the ASG National Conference in Los Angeles over the weekend. I flew in on Thursday evening but even with the plane landing early I didn't get to the hotel/conference center until after they closed registration for the day. Fortunately they still allowed me to enter the exhibit hall because I was able to show them that I was a paid attendee. Started by scoping out all the vendors and then buying a purse kit and pattern from Purses by Design. I bought The New Yorker pattern and kit for view C. A couple of days later I bought all the pieces to also make view B. Friday I bought some fabric to make the purse and the following day I bought fibers from The Fiber Goddess to weave a handle using the Diva Cord Maker. I had bought the cord maker a few years ago at another ASG conference and hadn't done much with it. This should be fun. I am hoping to get the purse made before my son's wedding on the 10th of September.
I also bought some gorgeous turquoise linen, patterns from Cutting Corners and some embroidery designs from Momo-dini Embroidery.
On Friday I took a class on using Photo-Shop Elements to organize your patterns. When I got home I asked my hubby if we have this program (I know a little after the fact). Of course we don't but he said he thinks that iPhoto has something similar so that will be my next quest. Then it was a class with Louise Cutting, Cutting to the Chase of Great Garments. After lunch it was Drafting Pants with Couture Fit with Connie Crawford. So much information my head was swimming. Friday night was the fashion show. As usual so many wonderful garments. Some of them though I wondered if they were ever worn anywhere or were they just made for the fashion show.
Saturday was an all day class with Jennifer Stern Hasemann. We turned a pair of jeans into a skirt. This was not your typical jeans to skirt look though. I have included some photos of one of her many skirts and then my skirt in progress. I will be adding embroidery as soon as I can. That will be the wonderful designs I just bought from Momo-dini. I can't wait to finish it and wear it soon. The best part of all is that the jeans don't have to fit. She shows how to add side gussets to make a small pair get larger or how to take away fabric to make them smaller. My jeans fit so I was able to just cut apart the inseam and front and back crotch seams. That did make it a little harder though to sew.
That evening I went to Santa Monica with other members from the Chicago chapter to watch the sun set over the mountains and then have dinner at a restaurant on the beach. We had a wonderful time. Then it was up early Sunday morning to pack and come home. I only stayed for two of the three days because with the upcoming wedding I didn't want to be away too long.
I am looking froward to going to Houston next year for the conference. I always learn so much.

Another Beautiful August Day

Today is another beautiful day. Did a 6 mile run this morning on the trails. What a great day for it.
My client picked up her headboard cover and seat cushion. She was delighted with the covered cord that replaced the flange on the headboard cover. The flange had been made with a linen fabric and she said it never looked quite right. Being linen it was always wrinkled and never stood up straight but was flopped over looking rather sloppy. I replaced the flange with cording, covered with that same linen fabric. It is now clean and crisp looking. She also liked the cushion but confessed they are now going to probably move it into another room as they are going to be doing some remodeling. She said she will need some new window treatments when that happens so I will be going over there in the future to help her with those. Working on some cushions for a kitchen nook right now. They should be a nice addition to the cozy seating area.
Just embroidered some backpacks for my daughter's classroom. I had made the backpacks several years ago with the intent to sell them at a boutique that has since closed. My daughter needed some new backpacks for the classroom so I unearthed these and personalized them for her.

Beautiful August Day

The hot weather is taking a day off. The temps today are in the 70-80 range with low humidity, sunshine and a breeze. These are the days that one has to remember when the snow piles are over your head and you think you will never see the grass again.
Just did some alterations on some sundresses for the winner of the Lake County fair pageant. She needed them done quickly because she was headed downstate for the State Fair and lunch with the governor. When she tried them on after I finished she was so happy. She said that her mom said they looked like muumuus on her when she tried them on in the store. Now they fit her like a glove and showed off her pretty figure. What a difference an inch or two makes. Now to try to make my mom's dress for my son's wedding look better on her. First I will shorten it and then I will see what can be done for the shoulders.
Finished redoing a headboard cover for a client and now starting on the seat cushion cover. The old one was so dirty. Why would a company make something that can't be taken off and washed when you are designing it for a kid's room? Not only will the new one be removable but it is made from a Sunbrella fabric which can be washed. If you haven't seen what Sunbrella is doing with fabrics you should really check them out. They even have velvet like fabrics that can be used outdoors.
It was so nice to run in cooler weather this morning. I did a 5K race on Saturday and the humidity was just awful. But all my training in the heat paid off because I was first in my age group. It wasn't a PR but with the heat and humidity I wasn't surprised.
Below is a photo of some bridal 'emergency bags' that I made. I embroidered them with the date of the wedding and then sewed up the bag. My daughter then stuffed them with all the things a bride might need on her big day such as bobby pins, tissues, hairspray, safety pins, etc. I know that when she gave it to my future daughter-in-law she was so touched by the thoughtfulness.

August is Here

With it being August now, that means that summer is nearly over. I am already missing the longer days. It also means that county fairs are in full swing. I entered ten items into the Lake County Fair and won ten ribbons, first, second or third. I also won two champion ribbons. We went to the fair on Friday evening to see the rodeo but the line was way too long so we just went back home. Went on Sunday then for the demolition derby. Always a lot of fun. Ate elephant ears and tried a new thing, a pizza made with a crepe. It was okay, could have had more cheese.

End of summer also means that fall after school classes will be starting soon. I will once again offer classes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays after school. I can't wait to see my students again. They also have a nice surprise awaiting them as the Sew Much Fun Sewing Studio is complete. I just have a few things to hang on the walls and also make a small window treatment but the floor is fixed and the walls are all painted and the furniture is all back in place. It is slightly smaller than before because of the wall system they used but we will be fine.

I finished a few small projects last week and also a faux hobbled Roman shade for my massage therapist, Karen Langel from Grayslake Massage. She recently had her room repainted and this treatment will be the finishing touch. I look forward to seeing it in place. Starting on a couple of projects for a previuos client. She needs her headboard cover remade with covered cord instead of a flange and a seat cushion recovered.

Saturday was the shower for our son PJ and his fiancee Kate. Our daughter hosted it at our house because hers is so small. We catered it from Infinitea from Antioch. We had a delicious assortment of finger sandwiches, sweetbreads, and scones with all the fixings. We also had three different teas that they brewed for us. That was followed by an assortment of desserts from Infinitea and a cake from Lovin' Oven Cakery. Everything was so good. The wedding is in just over a month. I need to get shopping for my dress but work has kept me busy, which is not a bad thing.

My trainer has me a a gluten free diet right now to see if we can solve some issues that I have while running. It worked today on my 8 mile run. I have a 5K on Saturday so we will see what happens. It is really hard because I love my bread and pasta.

Back to Work

Here is a photo of a personalized double flannel receiving blanket I made. I had given one as a gift to my friend's son for their first baby and they loved it. When they were expecting their second, my friend called and wanted one for the new baby. I made a plain one for them to bring the baby home from the hospital and then the personalized one for later. I was pleased that they liked them so much that my friend was willing to buy some. They are not hard to do and by prewashing the fabric they don't shrink up and stay new looking even after lots of use.

Things are starting to get back to normal here after being gone a week. It took me most of last week to catch up with phone calls and paperwork. It didn't help that I had several networking meetings also last week. I was disappointed that I had no students sign up for beginning sewing this week. I don't know if it was the time of summer or just no interest. I will be getting out the fall schedule next week. I look forward to seeing what my students have been doing over the summer. Finished up a couple of other small projects and now onto the faux hobbled Roman shade that will hang in my massage therapist's room. I look forward to my massage tomorrow. It has been three weeks and I need it, usually I go every two weeks. It is one luxury that I feel is more of a necessity with all the exercise I do. Karen Langel is wonderful and I would recommend her to everyone.

My trainer had me do a brick workout for the first time on Sunday. It was a hard 45 min bike ride followed by a 4 mile zone 2 run. With the heat, the run was quite slow to keep it down in zone 2. Drank lots of water with SaltSticks and ShotBlocs to keep the electrolytes in balance. My hubby did it with me as we are looking to do a few duathlons next year.

Right now it is raining buckets again with lots of lightening and thunder. I hope we don't lose power again or get hit by lightening. It seems like every other storm someone's house in our subdivision gets hit. Mostly it has been chimneys getting damaged but there have been some major fires also.

Summer Vacation

What a wonderful vacation. We spent a week near Gatlinburg, TN at the Smoky Mountains. We spent the time hiking, biking, white water rafting and also zip-lining. We stayed at the Wyndham Smoky Mountains Resort where we had a one bedroom condo. We grilled out most nights and just enjoyed the laid back pace. We did several of the day hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. They were definitely challenging with all the climbing. We also went biking in Townsend, a town along the Little River. We were also able to bike Cade's Cove in the park when they close the road every Wednesday and Saturday morning to car traffic.

We went white water rafting with Smoky Mountain Outdoors and zip-lining with Foxfire Mountain. Both were a lot of fun and I would highly recommend them. We did go out to dinner one night and took in the show, Country Tonite. What a high energy show with lots of singing, dancing and costume changes. The last day there we went to Hillside Winery which was just down the street from our hotel. We came home with a bunch of different wines and cheeses.

Kind of sad to be home but things are getting busy with work. Just met with someone to do seat cushions for her banquette. Looking forward to getting some projects finished.

Summer Continues

WOW! Look at all those pillows. These are the pillows that the three girls finished last week in their Pile of Pillows class. In four days they made all these pillows. One set even had a button back. They learned how to make buttonholes by machine and sew on the buttons with the sewing machine also. Amy, Lauren and Mia all had a great time. Many thanks to Lauren for helping also when I was tied up. My next camp is the last week of July, it is a beginners sewing camp again. Do you know of anyone that wants to learn to sew?

On Friday last week I finished up a couple of small projects so that I could concentrate on some larger projects this week. I am lining a pair of panels someone had bought. I really wish they had just brought me the fabric because I had to take apart the whole panel to add the lining. It would have been easier to start from the beginning.

We haven't had any rain for a while and the grass is really starting to show it. Too much rain in the spring and now none when we need some. Oh how I love living in the Chicago area. Did a 5K race on the Fourth of July. I came in first in my age group, about a half a minute ahead of the second place person. This is a first for me to even place in my age group.

Summer Time

This is what I love about summer. Summer sewing camps are in full swing. This is a photo of last week's beginning class. In four days they went from not knowing how to even thread a sewing machine to making themselves a sewing bag, a belt and at least one article of clothing to wear. They were all so proud of their accomplishments. I love sharing my love of sewing with others. These week's camp is pile of pillows. This is a photo of what they have done in the first three days.

Monday I had a couple of people drop off projects and Tuesday I had others pick up completed projects. Now I have to find the time to do some sewing which is hard to do when I have camps. Some very interesting projects on my plate so I am looking froward to getting into the workroom. I am so blessed to be able to work at something I love.
Sunday my hubby and I did our first duathlon. It was a 2.3 mile run, followed by a 12 mile bike and then a 5K (3.1 mile) run. We just did it for fun, not too hard since we haven't ever trained for one. We both enjoyed it. We are looking at doing some more sprint distance ones next year with an international distance one in the fall perhaps down in Florida. We would combine it with a vacation stay there also. Sounds like a good goal for us.

Spending time in the yard and vegetable plot. Things are finally starting to grow. We picked over 5 pounds of cherries last night from the tree in our back yard. Still a lot more there to get picked. Slowly getting the house back together after the painters have finished. All the pictures have to go back up on the walls and the books back into the bookcases. Of course I am looking to move things around so that makes it harder.

Am I Crazy?

Last night my husband and I signed up to do a duathlon on Sunday. My trainer thought it would be fun for us to do. I have never done anything like that plus I am afraid to ride my bike too fast. Should be interesting if nothing else. The following Sunday we do a 5K race. While I was at a meeting last night, hubby joined some others for a bike ride. The only problem was that severe weather moved in and at one point they ducked into a golf course tunnel to escape the wind and rain only to have the lights go out on them in there. He was drenched and covered with grit because part of the ride was on gravel trails. Oh the crazy things we do for exercise.
Sewing camp is going well. The four girls, Kennedy, Emma, Nikki and Els, are all very energetic and excited to be sewing. Today was their third day and they have all finished their sewing bags and their belts. Nikki is almost done with her shorts, while the other girls should be able to finish up tomorrow. With the girl's parents' permission, I will post some photos next week. Otherwise here is a photo of the sewing studio after they left for the day.

I finished a tablecloth for one customer and a baby blanket for another. Not much sewing work getting done with the teaching of camps. Have some pants I need to hem by Friday for another client. Spent time over the weekend figuring out yardage for another client that wants several valances and pillows for her home.
Sunday was Father's Day and the annual Pig Roast in our community. We start eating at around noon on the beach and finish up around six or later when we have eaten our fill and are too tired to do anything else. What a great way to spend the day. The dads all seem to love it also. One year the kids took my hubby to a baseball game instead (as they usually take me on Mother's Day if the Cubs are in town) but he said he would rather hang out on the beach from now on.
I was scheduled to have a stress test today but the doctor still wasn't there 45 minutes into my appointment so I left and rescheduled for another day. What a waste of my time!

Getting Back to Normal

With kudos to Scott Franzen, our basement is fixed. Scott is my go-to painter and since he was already coming to paint several other areas in the house I asked him if he had a guy that could fix the basement. No problem he said, he could do it. And he did! Great job. I had the stairways, both up and down painted and the upstairs hall. He also did the trim work in those areas plus the foyers and the ceilings in there also. Also he painted the sewing studio. John Stringer of Mudd Crete Designs fixed the floor after it was damaged by the people finishing off the area. He finished on Thursday and the painters came on Friday. Now I just have to get the room back together so I can have Beginning Sewing Camp next week. I am looking forward to sharing my love of sewing with 4 more girls.

I love the color I chose for the sewing studio. It looks bright and cheerful. Now to spend some time to find fabric for some window treatments. And of course make them.
Kris just picked up her bathroom cafes. She loves them and can't wait to see them hanging. Now on to a round tablecloth for another customer. Not enough fabric to do a ruffle but I will add a covered cord around the bottom.
Had all sorts of mis-communication this past week. First a client never showed last week, then I had a mixup with emails with another business woman that I was meeting for coffee. I was talking Tuesday, she was talking Monday. When I didn't show on Monday she called and left emails but I was not here because I took my mom to a funeral for one of my dad's aunts. We did manage to get together Tuesday. Very informative meeting. Then yesterday, Kris didn't come by in the afternoon to get her cafes. She called while I was out waiting to meet my web guy who forgot all about our meeting this morning. Meeting with web guy rescheduled and Kris has her cafes, so things are better.
Another race is over. I did the North Shore Half Marathon on Sunday with Jennifer. We had been training to race it at least as fast as Nashville but neither of us felt we were as prepared. I don't know if it was more in our minds because we had already achieved our goal of an under 2 hour half or because we knew how hard it really was to do it that fast. We set out to do our best. At around mile 7.5, Jennifer had to walk because of pains in her side. She told me to go ahead which I did. I was worried about her though. Lauri, our trainer, wanted me to count how many people I passed in the final 2 miles. I think it was her way of getting my mind off the pain and also to show me how strong she felt I was. I passed 27 people. Not bad but I just didn't have anything left to really push across the finish line. My time, 2:00:01. Missed a 2 hour half by 1 second! Jennifer was about 2-3 minutes behind me. John ran the 5K along with our son PJ, his fiancee Kate and her sister Rebecca. It was a beautiful day for a race. We are planning on doing one more half this year, probably some time in October, after PJ and Kate's wedding in September.

What a Mess

Yesterday while teaching sewing class, one of the girls asked for a tissue. With the sewing studio still under construction I went out into the other part of the basement to look for the tissues when I heard a dripping noise. I turned on the lights and there was water dripping from the ceiling with one ceiling tile completely soaked and a bulge in the wall boarded ceiling. I quickly called my husband, ran upstairs to find tissues for the one girl and turn off the dishwasher and then back down and turned off the main water into the house. When my hubby made it home I had already finished teaching and started trying to clean up some of the mess. Our recliners under the leak had gotten wet but since they are vinyl, not a big problem except for the holder in the divider. The well was full of water which was mostly soaked up by a quilt I had in there which was good news since it saved the controller which was also in there from getting soaked. John cut out the ceiling to see if he could figure out what was leaking. It turned out the water filter for the fridge had sprung a leak. There was a lot of water up there, it must have been leaking for a while. Set up the dehumidifier and now it is time to start calling for estimates.

I am sorry to see my afterschool classes ending, the girls have been a lot of fun and I think they enjoyed it also. I do wish I had not been distracted by the water leak but they were real troopers through it all. Lauren and Meghan are almost finished with their ruffle skirts and Katie got a good start on her back slit denim skirt. Sewing camps start on June 20th, and the sewing studio should be finished by then. John from MuddCrete is coming today to repair the floor and Scott will be here Friday to do the painting.

The weather has been exceptionally warm the past few days but I have been enjoying it. A cold front is supposed to come through tonight and drop the temps by about 20-30 degrees. It will be interesting to see what the weather will be like on race day, Sunday. Last weekend a half marathon in the city was cancelled after two hours due to extreme heat. I'm hoping for better temps this weekend. Jennifer and I have one more speed workout tomorrow and then an easy bike and rest day before the race. I am hoping to beat last year's time but not really looking to beat Nashville's time. That was a hard pace to run.

I am almost finished sewing the bathroom tab top cafes for a friend. Probably would have finished them yesterday but with the water leak everything else was put on hold. I even cancelled a meeting for this morning because I wasn't sure how things were going to be in the morning. A client never showed up on Monday for her appointment and she hadn't left me a phone number so I can't call to see what happened. So note to self, ALWAYS get a phone number from a potential client.

Posting one last photo of the recliner set I had to dismantle to drain the water from the armrest. As they say this too shall pass.

Summer Begins

My niece has graduated from high school and I have included some photos of the quilt I made for her. It arrived in the mail yesterday according to my sister so it is safe to post the pictures now. Congrats Brittany on graduating and good luck in culinary school.
Summer weather is here in the Chicago area, at least for a while. Over the holiday weekend, we had cool and overcast on Saturday, which was okay for the 14 mile run I did with my daughter, Sunday was cool and foggy which made for a very interesting Bike the Drive in the morning. It was misty and breezy most of the time while we were biking the 30 miles on Lake Shore Drive. At times you couldn't even see the buildings. Then Monday came and with it came the warm weather. We did a bike ride in the morning and then yard work the rest of the day. The beach in front of the house was packed with people. Today the sky is sunny with a bit of a wind and lower humidity. Nice to be able to open the windows.
Just one more sewing class before we break for the summer. Lauren and Meghan are both sewing ruffle skirts but out of very different fabrics. Katie finished her round neck blouse and Julia didn't show up. Hope she's okay.
Finally working on the bathroom cafes for a friend. They will be tab top ones with two different fabrics with a covered cord between them. The top part will be flat while the bottom part will be pleated. They should look great. I have my CEO lunch today. Always a good time.

Raining Again

I am including some photos of a table topper I made. Norma showed us this magic pinwheel technique at one of our ASG meetings. The first photo is the piece sewn with some of the cutting already done. The other photo is the finished project. It was a lot of fun and I hope to do a larger quilt some day using this technique. All the fabrics were from my stash. That is always a good feeling to be able to use stuff you already have.
The weather here has been back and forth from cool, almost cold to summer every couple of days. Fortunately we have been spared the tornadoes that have hit elsewhere so I guess I shouldn't complain too much. The rain is good but I can't get to my garden to plant my tomatoes because it is so wet.
Putting some rolled edges on fabric ties that are used when decorating for weddings at the barn near me. It is using a lot of thread. Bought out all my local JoAnn's store had and had to go to another one to get more. Found some great flannels to make blankets for a friend's new grandbaby up at Sew 'n' Save in Racine WI. Was up there yesterday for Pattie Otto's embroidery club. As usual she had some great ideas.
Lauren finished her purse! She needs to get some cardboard or plastic canvas to stiffen the bottom and sew up the lining but otherwise she is done. Katie finished the facing on her round neck blouse with just a few mishaps and has sewn the side seams. Meghan cut out her ruffle skirt and started on the zigzagging. Julia sewed up her side seams on her nightshirt and started with the hems.
Did a 12 mile run on rolling hills Saturday with my daughter. Had to take a few bathroom breaks, we are still trying to figure this all out. After that it was work in our vegetable plot and then on to our son's new home to help him with his yard work. Spent 3 hours pulling weeds and only got a small section done. He has some nice stuff going on but it was neglected for too long. Sunday my hubby and I rode our bikes from Old School forest preserve to the Robert McClory bike path to the Botanic Gardens and then back up the Skokie Valley path. In all we rode about 30 miles. Sunny but windy. Much nicer than last week's ride. Forgot the sunscreen so I am sunburned now. Can't wait to see what this weekend brings;-)

Breathe Deep Event

This is my table from the Breathe Deep Event in Mundelein on Saturday, May 14th. It was a nice turnout with quite a few vendors. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, I was busy enough I didn't have a chance to check out what the other vendors were offering. Thanks to JoAnne Lenart-Weary I was able to have a power point slide show running on my computer to help spark some conversation. I will be contacting the winner from my raffle later today. I also met with a real estate agent who had some interesting concepts. I hope she calls to talk more as our conversation was cut short by the need to go in to the brunch.
In class Lauren is making good progress on her purse, Katie finished her zigzagging on her round neck blouse and sewed the shoulder seams and facing in place. Meghan finished her purse. Even with the poor directions it turned out really cute. She is so proud of it. Julia got her facing in her nightshirt with only a few mishaps. She can't wait to sew the side seams so "her underwear won't show". Summer camps are starting to fill up so if you are thinking about it get your registration in soon.
Got a call yesterday from a friend that wants some baby blankets made. I had made some for her grandson as a gift when he was born and her daughter-in-law liked them so much she wants more for her next baby. I just have to remember how I made the first ones :-)
Did my 10 mile run Saturday afternoon after the Breathe Deep Event. It was cold, windy and rainy at times but the run went well. Sunday's Prairie Pedal bike ride was in slightly worse weather. Not too bad when on the roads but the time on the gravel trails was awful. In some places the gravel was so loose I had to walk the bike because I couldn't get any traction. After about 20 some miles I said I couldn't face another set of hills against the wind so we headed for the lunch. It was very good as usual and the hot chocolate was a nice touch. In all we did 23 miles. Another treadmill workout on Monday, it went a little better than the last one.

What Happened to Spring?

As I sit here writing this blog the temperature is close to 80 and it is only 9AM. It is also muggy out there. It seems like we went from winter to summer. But not to worry because I think it is only supposed to be 50 and rainy and windy on Sunday when we are doing the Prairie Pedal. Oh what joy it is to ride 27 miles in the cold and rain and wind.
Our rest week is over from after the race. On Monday we had a speed workout on the treadmill that saw me stepping off to the side a couple of times just to catch my breath. I signed my daughter and I up for the North Shore Half on June 12th so we are committed once again to this. I think Lauri wants us to be even faster this race. What have I gotten us into? Yesterday when I was doing CompuTrainer and was having a hard time in one segment I thought to myself if Lauri could do the whole 26.2 miles of the run (after doing the bike and swim well) in the Ironman in St. George, Utah with a chest cold and not being able to take a deep breath, I can pedal for another 2 minutes. It took her 6 hours, I can last for a few minutes. What a great inspiration for a coach.

The Christening dress is done. The mom picked it up yesterday and she was just delighted. There should be enough fabric left to make her daughter's First Communion dress in about 7 years. I am looking forward to the challenge. Just had a call from someone who needs 10 blankets monogrammed. We need to set up an appointment and I will get started on those.
Started a pair of bathroom curtains yesterday, just simple white cafes for someone who liked the other ones I did for her but was tired of the color.
In sewing class, I found out two of my girls that took a break to sew costumes for a school play won't be coming back this school year. I will miss them but it means the two new girls will be able to stay until June now so they are very excited. Lauren continues to work on her purse, Katie finished cutting out her round neck blouse and started the zigzagging, Meghan is working on her purse. The directions are difficult for me to understand at times and it is a learn to sew pattern. Not sure who designed this pattern and instructions. Julia finished her zigzagging on her nightshirt and has the shoulder seams sewn. She wanted to sew the side seams right away but I had to explain to her that you need to follow the steps in the right order so things go together properly.
I had a great phone consult with JoAnne Lenart-Weary on Friday. She helped me with several ideas for a show I am doing on Saturday.

I Did It!!!

My goal for the year was to run a half-marathon in under 2 hours. My fastest prior to this was 2:06 so I needed to take off at least 6 minutes which didn't seem like a lot but it was. My daughter and I have been working with Lauri from TFP since January. I then hurt myself shoveling the record snow fall we had in February and had to stop running for a few weeks. My hubby and I drove to Nashville on Thursday morning and my daughter and her husband came down after they finished teaching on Thursday. On Friday we picked up our packets at the expo and got our corral changed to a lower number so that we would be running with others trying for a two hour finish. We were unable to get to a port-a-potty prior to the start of the race because of the very long lines. That led to some issues during the race that I won't discuss here;-). We were doing well at the 10 mile mark and said if we can keep up this pace we will make it. At mile 12 with another hill to run we lost it. We finally had to walk some and I thought at that time we had blown our chance of getting in under the two hour mark. We were holding hands and crying but then we made it to the top and there was a band playing 'Johnny be Good" and that got the adrenaline flowing again and I picked up my pace. In my mind I thought 'Okay I will try to get as close to 2 hours as I can'. As I was rounding the last corner I got a cramp in my right calf. As I was swearing under my breath I poured it on as best I could and limped over the finish line. The clock read 2:05 something so I knew I was close. When I finally found my hubby and daughter at the end I found out I had made it at 1:59:29. I Did It!!! My daughter also made it with a time of 1:59:57! I couldn't believe it. But all the hard work paid off and we accomplished our goal. In my age group I was 32 out of 855. I have never placed that high. It was worth the effort but I am still sore several days later but Lauri says that is to be expected as we really pushed our bodies hard. She will give us a week or two to recover and then it is time to train for the next race. I don't know if I am excited or dreading the next race.
In cleaning out the back area of the basement, so far I have a stack of boxes for Salvation Army plus an ironing board and a display rack. There is also a microwave oven to go. Hopefully I will have it finished in another month or two.

In class, Lauren is working along on her purse, Katie made her belt and started cutting out her round neck blouse, Meghan is working on her purse and Julia finished cutting out her nightshirt and will start the zigzagging next week. I have three girls signed up for my beginning sewing camp in June. It should be fun.
I have finished the Christening gown from a wedding dress and also made a muscle shirt out of an oversized t-shirt. This week I have a coaching session scheduled for Friday with JoAnne Lenart-Weary for my Color with No Regrets business. Today is my luncheon with my CEO advisory group. I am looking forward to sharing all I have accomplished since our last meeting.
We are finally having a little bit of spring here. I have included some pictures to counteract those with the snow from a couple of weeks ago.

Rain, Rain, Go Away

They say this has been one of the rainiest and most overcast Aprils in the Chicago area. I believe it. I have not been able to do any biking outside, every time I think maybe today, it rains some more or it is cold and windy.
I have been spending time trying to get the basement back together. Monday night after our exercise classes, John and I moved the essentials back into the sewing studio. Because it is so much smaller, I am going to have to rethink where everything is going to fit. I plan on doing a lot of purging to hopefully reduce what all needs to fit in there. I have chosen a split complimentary color scheme for the room based on the floor color. I used the Color with No Regrets system which made it very easy. Now to get the painter in and find fabric for a faux Roman shade for the window.
Lauren continues to work on her purse. She is making good progress. Katie finished her sewing bag and will do her belt next week plus start on her first project, she is thinking about doing a blouse. Meaghan had to miss because she had an orchestra concert and Julia finished her belt and started pinning her nightshirt.
The Christening gown is coming along nicely. I met with a local realtor yesterday for coffee and we talked about our respective businesses. Have a client dropping off fabric this morning for some bathroom curtains she wants made. Signed up to have a table at a women's event coming up on May 14th. Need to get together a door prize and figure out a pleasing table arrangement.
One last speed workout this afternoon and then off to Nashville for the race. I am excited and very nervous. I have been working really hard to get this under two hours and I'm worried that something will happen. I have also been really watching my diet this week, no candy (I miss my chocolate), no veggies or whole grains (to prevent GI issues) and extra water and salt plus good carb, fat and protein ratios.
We had a lovely Easter. Our son came in from Iowa for the weekend and our daughter and her new hubby came for Easter breakfast.

Afterwards we took an hour long walk through the neighborhood to work off the meal before heading out to my sister-in-law's house for Easter dinner.

Will Spring Ever be Here?

Is this really the end of April? This photo is from Monday morning. I so need some sunshine and warmth.
The basement remodel saga continues. Yesterday they finished up the trim work according to my standards. The door frame corners were sub-standard, there was no quarter round at the base of the molding and there was a large chip in the bottom of a door frame. That all looks good now but while I was sweeping and then my hubbie was washing the floor we noticed several chips in the overlay concrete we had down there. They were definitely not there before so now we need to talk to them about that. I almost wish I had never started this project.
Still had to teach in the crowded front area of the basement yesterday afternoon. Lauren fixed the mistakes on her purse and is now making good progress on it. Katie pinned and stitched the outer edges of her sewing bag, Julia finished her sewing bag but forgot to bring the needed items to start her next projects. Meaghan is working on her purse.
The embroidery is all finished and picked up. Working on a Christening gown from a wedding dress. Had a couple of clients stop my in the last two days with some small projects they want done.
Did a webinar as a participant this morning as a final follow-up to the Color with No Regrets class I took in Charlotte, NC. I have practiced some with the family and now need to get out there and do some real live clients. Anyone want help choosing colors for a room or whole house?
This week is a recovery week in my training plan so no run on Monday, easy bike on Tuesday and just a 4 mile run in zone 2 today. Tomorrow we have a speed workout scheduled with our trainer. Nashville will be here before we know it. I am excited and very nervous.
Had a great MeetUp meeting last evening with Eddie Soto. There were just four of us talking about Social Media but I learned more again. He really asked some good questions for us to consider regarding our business and the use of social media.

Basement Remodel

The basement remodel is coming along a lot slower than I anticipated. Last week after sewing class and the LPC Annual Meeting, John and I cleared out the room where I teach. Up until now it has had the white plastic walls (insulation), track lights and an etched floor in a cool turquoise color. I decided to finish off the walls and separate it from the furnace area with more than the shelves that were there. The salesman told us they could install the wall under the I-beam (can't do that because of the supporting pole so I lost 3-4 inches from the room which will make it almost impossible to place everything back in there) and also that it would be done in a week. Well that hasn't happened either. Monday and Tuesday there was no work done because they had to get the electrical inspection done before proceeding further. I had to teach in the main part of the basement which is a big mess because everything from that back room was put in there to get the room worked on. The girls were very understanding and actually enjoyed it I think. Too messy for me.

Lauren is working on her purse. She made a major mistake, some of it my fault because I hadn't read the directions thoroughly. She decided to fix it rather than work around it so she is further behind than she had hoped. Poor Katie forgot her book so had to wait while mom went home to get it. She was very happy to get it and do some more sewing. She will start on cutting out her sewing bag next week. Meaghan started the sewing on her purse and Julia just needs to add the cord to her sewing bag and will be able to make her belt next week.
Spent last week going through all my notes from classes and trying to figure out my next steps, Ordered the book I need for taking my test and just waiting for it so I can start studying. Hopefully this week I will get to the Sherwin-Williams store and get my paint palettes made. The Color with No Regrets class was very helpful in getting colors chosen for the stairway/ hallways.
Ran the Reach Out and Run 5K on Saturday morning and achieved a personal best. The weather was just cool enough to be able to run fast but not so cold that it was uncomfortable waiting for the race to start. Sunday was much warmer, upper 70's, when Jennifer and I had to do our 14 mile run. It was bad. Besides the heat it was very windy which made it difficult to run. It took us almost three hours. I'm hoping that Nashville is not this hot otherwise it will be difficult to do the race in under 2 hours. Did some speed work on the treadmill this morning in long pants and top to try to get used to running in the warmer temps.
Some of my daffodils are blooming as well as the hyacinths just starting.

Getting Down to Work

Well I am back from Custom Home Furnishings Academy. I had two classes, Professional Window Treatment Consultant with Michele Williams and Color with No Regrets with JoAnne Lenart-Weary. Both were intense two day classes filled with lots of information but also fun. Now I have to study and then take an exam to become a Professional Window Treatment Consultant. I also have to practice my technique for doing color consultations. Time to get to work and put all the classroom theory to work. I am looking forward to being able to offer these services to my clients.
Sewing classes are back in session. Lauren is working on her purse, Grace needed to take time off for soccer but Katie has joined us. She has started sewing her practice stitches. Meaghan finished her sport top and started cutting out a purse. She was so excited to find flip-flop fabric like that on the pattern envelope. Julia is working diligently on her sewing bag. It was a fast paced hour of lessons on Tuesday. Matrix Basement Systems started work on finishing off the space where I teach this morning. I am hoping they will be finished before class next week.
I did an EMR (exercise metabolic rate) on the treadmill this morning. My fuel burning is much better than it was three months ago. That is good news. Now I need to work on my speed and we will come up with a fueling plan for the race on the 30th.
Spring is trying to arrive here in the Chicago area. I have a few crocuses blooming but mostly they have been eaten by the rabbits. Where is that coyote when I need him? The daffodils and tulips are starting to pop up.
I finished the quilt for my niece's high school graduation. I have posted a photo of the label but won't post any more pictures until after she receives it, I don't want to spoil the surprise!

Is This Spring?

I had thought that when the groundhog didn't see his shadow on February 2nd that we were due to have an early spring. We have had only a couple of nice days and it is still cold, damp and windy out there. Hurry up spring, I need some warmth and sunshine.
The bedroom valances have been delivered and all 400 plus staples have been removed from the two seat cushions. My right hand is so sore from holding the staple remover and then wielding the pliers while my left hand has several wounds from being in the way when the tool slipped. Ouch! Now the fun will start when I get to sew the new covers and cording. Just had a bunch of shirts dropped off for embroidery. This should keep me busy until I leave for my classes next week. I am really looking forward to being at Custom Home Furnishings Academy and learning new things.
In class, Lauren finished cutting out all the pieces for her tote bag including the interfacing. Grace almost finished her nightshirt but will be taking some time off as soccer season is starting. Meghan got the neck band on her sport top and was pinning all the hems while Julia finished pinning her sewing bag and started some sewing.
Did a ten miler early Friday morning before leaving for retreat and then did 7 miles this morning, most of it in a zone 3 heartrate. Friday is a speed workout with the trainer and then 13 miles on Sunday before my flight to North Carolina.

Retreat this weekend at Homestead Quilting Retreat was a blast. It was so much fun to get together with old friends and just sew. I finished my 'retreat quilt', a quilt I had started at a class several years ago and then worked on a little each year at retreat, mostly because it was quite boring. Also finished all the blocks for my son's wedding quilt and will now start to put them together. Did a little hand sewing on the binding for a quilt for the family room. I have included a few photos of some of the amazing work others have done.
One last thing to share, I just finished reading an incredible book. It is Lighting the Way, Nine Women Who Changed Modern America. It is by Karenna Gore Schiff. I have to say I have never enjoyed history, it was my worst subject in school and I can't remember dates and all that. This book profiled 9 women and the way it was written just kept me reading. I'm sure I still won't remember dates but the lessons I learned will stay with me. It has made me challenge the way I think about things now also. What more could you ask for from a book?

Gearing Up for Work

I am gearing up to get working on some new projects. I finished the bedroom valance for a customer, now I am just waiting for her to get the rod that she saw. When she has it we will install it all. Just ordered some lining and interlining from Rowley with their free shipping. I also ordered a staple remover. I have two chair seats to recover and started taking out some of the staples but there must be a hundred staples per seat and the screwdriver I usually use just isn't going to cut it. I also have some bathroom cafes to do and think I will finally make the shades for my own sewing room. The jogging suit alterations are done and the customer just picked it up. She was very happy with the results. This turned out to be much more difficult than I had anticipated. I had to use a metallic thread in the looper of my serger and it worked well at first and then just didn't want to cooperate later. Finally after many stops and starts I got it done. It really tested my resolve not to swear during Lent:-)
Did a webinar on Monday with Joanne Lenart Weary, Space Planning on the Fly. It was a good one and I can't wait to take her class,Color with no Regrets, in a couple of weeks down at CHF Academy.
The girls all showed up yesterday for class. Lauren finished her top at home and started on cutting out a tote bag with some fun tie-dyed, peace sign fabric. Grace has just the hems left on her nightshirt. Meghan is going to be putting on the neckband on her sport top next and Julia cut out her sewing bag and started with the pinning. She was getting discouraged about how long it was taking but the other girls assured her that it took them a long time also but that as they did more, things got quicker.
Saturday was cold and very windy. I spent 3 hours working outside in the morning with Liberty Prairie Conservancy cutting undesirable woodies while the others did the dabbing with the herbicide. When it came time for lunch I convinced them that standing around outside eating pizza would not be fun so they came to the house to eat instead. Much more enjoyable. Then I had to take an hour walk. By the time I got back I was more than ready for a hot shower and some time inside sewing.
Sunday my daughter and I did a nine mile run. It went well and I had only a little discomfort from my injury. We will start some speed work next week. This morning was a 6 miler at a slightly higher heart rate and it was fine also. Nashville here we come.
With the weather starting to warm up I have started my plants inside. I have parsley and dill started in the basement under the grow lights and several different flowers started in a 'greenhouse' in the living room window. It is actually a domed deli tray. A friend was doing it and told me about it. It really works well to start seeds. Can't wait to plant some pretty flowers in the yard.

Lent Begins

Today marks the beginning of Lent. Yesterday we celebrated Fat Tuesday with some delicious muffins from Something's Brewing for breakfast. A nice treat. Then it was pancakes for dinner. I even remembered to pull out my Mardi Gras tablecloth and napkins to set the dinner table.
The bedroom valance is nearly finished and then I will start on some other projects. In sewing class Lauren was sick yesterday, Grace is working on the facing for her night shirt, Meghan has the sleeves mostly sewn to the front and back of her sport shirt and Julia was excited to be finished with practice sewing and start to work on her first project, a sewing bag. She chose a gold colored fabric to make her bag. I sent out summer camp info and already have heard from a few people. I also donated a camp for the auction where my daughter teaches kindergarten. She told me a first grade girl won and she was so excited!
I ran 4 miles in low zone 2 this morning, in the rain. Ran 7 on Sunday and have to do 9 this Sunday. The race is only a month and a half away. It is feeling better to run, just don't know how it is going to be when I try to do some speed work. I am going to ask my massage therapist tomorrow for some recommendations for a chiropractor.

March is here but the weather is still wintery. We had freezing rain on Monday which backed up my appointments but it all worked out. Met with a couple of new clients and will be working on their projects in the next few weeks. The master bedroom valance is coming along nicely. This afternoon is my CEO advisory group lunch. I am looking forward to seeing how things are going with everyone.
Yesterday's sewing class was a tad disorganized. At about 8 minutes before class was to start, a neighbor showed up with her daughter to start taking the class. We had briefly talked about the possibility of her joining the class but no definite plans were made so I was quite surprised to find her on the doorstep. Fortunately I had a packet of info already together so I was able to get her started. Lauren is almost finished with her sport shorts, Grace finished cutting out her nightshirt and did the zigzagging and Meghan cut out her sport shirt. Hopefully things will be a little calmer next week.
I went for a four mile zone 1 run on Saturday and then again this morning. The hip is still a little sore. Not sure how I am going to be able to run the half marathon in under two hours at this rate. I'm thinking it's time to see a chiropractor or acupuncturist to help with the lingering discomfort.
Saturday evening was our 12th annual chili party. We now have three categories for prizes, chili, cornbread and salsa. We had about 40 people and 14 different chilies to taste. We all had a great time.

Pain is Getting Better

Going to start working on a valance and cafe curtains for a client's master bedroom and bath. She finally found the fabrics she wanted. I met with my web developer last week. We went over the site with a fine tooth comb and found several errors. He will be working on correcting them while I finish writing some more copy for the site. Soon it should be up and running.
In sewing class, Anna and Sammie have dropped out temporarily while they work with the costume crew for their school play. They are so excited to be doing it. Grace finished her peasant blouse and started cutting out a nightshirt. Meghan finished her pajama pants and is eager to start on book 2. Lauren will be joining them next week while Anna and Sammie are busy.
A lot of the snow melted but then on Monday we got freezing rain which really made a mess of the morning commute. Then Tuesday morning we got another couple of inches of snow. I can't wait for spring to come.
My hip pain wasn't getting any better even after a deep tissue massage so I went to the doctor finally. She sent me for x-rays (all normal) and started me on some anti-inflamatory meds and a muscle relaxant. They are definitely helping as I can now move and walk without pain. I still can't run and that is really getting me down. I am hoping I will have enough time before the race in Nashville to get up to speed.
I have gone to two embroidery classes since last week. The first was on Friday at Sewing Source to learn about Floriani's products. The second was embroidery club at Sew 'n' Save yesterday. Pattie Otto's class was about using Texture Magic and the embroidery designs she digitized. The photo here is a pillow I did with the center being her design and the Texture Magic. I really like how it turned out. I can't wait to try some of the other designs and applications. I have also included a close up photo of the center.

Pillows

These pillows are for a client's living room. She had picked out some great fabrics and trims for these pillows and also some for her family room. Next up on the table is some window treatments for a master bedroom and bath. Today I am meeting with my web designer. Hopefully we will be putting on the final touches to my site and will be live soon.
Yesterday both Anna and Meghan missed class. Poor Anna has the flu and Meghan had a concert that had been rescheduled due to the bad weather two weeks ago. Grace is almost done with her peasant blouse, she just needs to do the hem and take out some basting stitches. Sammie has just the hems on her nightshirt to do. Lauren finished her sport shirt and started on a drawstring bag from some leftover fabric she had.
The weather has been warming up and the snow is starting to melt. I can see the patio furniture which had been totally buried in a drift two weeks ago. I hurt myself though doing more snow shoveling on Saturday. I finished clearing the final 3 feet of width on the driveway so I wouldn't keep scraping the car. The problem was that the snow was over four feet tall and the piles on the sides of the drive were over five feet tall so I was lifting and throwing the wet snow up and over it. I think I twisted one too many times and could barely walk the next morning the pain in my hip was so bad. It did ease up some and my daughter and I were able to do a 9 mile run, very slowly. On Monday my trainer said no more running for now and to ice and rest it as much as possible. It is still tight this morning but loosened up some doing an easy 45 minute elliptical workout. I just want to get back to training for the race in Nashville on April 30th.
Last Thursday I hosted our ASG meeting that we had to cancel from the previous week. We cut out bibs for Clearbrook Center and will be sewing them at home plus doing some more cutting out. Next month at our meeting we will be learning how to make a magic pinwheel table topper. It looks like a lot of fun.

Go Pack Go

Well the Super Bowl Party went well at the house. My sister-in-law and her fiance, a Steeler fan, were able to get here. They brought with some great brats for us to enjoy. Unfortunately we couldn't grill them because the grill is buried in the snow. Things got a little tense when the pizza nearly burned but it was all eaten anyway. It was a great, close game with my Packers finally closing it out. Now it is time to look forward to baseball season. Will this be the Cubs year?
In class, Anna is working on her tank top, Grace is working on her peasant blouse, Meaghan is almost done with her pajama pants and Sammie is putting the sleeves on her nightshirt. Sammie is talking about making her homecoming dress next fall. I think she could do it if she does some work at home.
Barb picked up her dozen pillows this morning and really liked them. I think they will really add a lot to her living room and family room. Too bad I didn't get them done before her open house, the weather had me spending a lot of time outside shoveling snow instead of sewing. Next up is a window treatment for a client's bedroom and adjoining bathroom.
Did a 6 mile run Friday afternoon and a 7 miler on Sunday before the game with my daughter getting ready for Nashville in April. She bought us matching tops so our hubbies will be able to spot us easier. Should be fun. Did another treadmill workout this morning. They are not fun but I know I need to do them in order to get faster.

Snow, Snow and More Snow

The weather has really taken a turn for the worse. Right now Lake County IL is shut down. If you are out on the roads the police will issue you a ticket. This is serious stuff right now. It has been snowing and blowing for almost 24 hours. Right now the sun is trying to come out. I have done a little shoveling but currently my husband is in the attic trying to remove the snow that is in there.

What a mess. It might be a few days before we can get back to normal. Sub zero temps are to follow.
Fortunately the Packers made it down to Dallas before they were snowed in. We are planning on having a party to watch the Super Bowl but I don't know at this point what will be happening as my sister-in-law's fiance just posted pictures from where they are snowed in in their house.
Class yesterday was cancelled yesterday due to the snow. I thought there is no way I want those moms and girls out driving in this mess. Lauren's 1 1/2 hour lesson went well. She is making a sport top from a knit so I decided to teach her howto use a serger. After threading it up, she did a little practicing and then pretty soon had most of the top sewn. I finished up the alterations I was doing and started on the pillows I am making for another client. She is having an open house on Saturday to show off her new basement so I am trying to have them done by then even though they are for the upstairs rooms. Maybe she will need a few things for her basement.
New Years Resolutions: Just no time to do a daily walk, too many other obligations. Recovery week is over so Monday was a 4 mile run followed by weights, Tuesday was a computrainer ride at 150 watts, my threshold and now today I need to do a treadmill run of 5 miles with varying speeds followed by weights again this evening. I will see if I can get to the fitness center to get on the treadmill and then wait and see if they open the roads so I can get to functional weights class at The Fitness Pursuit.

Super Bowl Here We Come

What a week it has been. The weather hasn't improved much, but at least it is a little warmer, not below zero anyway. I could use a little sunshine though. The e-vites for our chili party have been sent and we've gotten mostly yeses as responses. Should be another full house. I need to design and make the apron prizes.
Sunday was a busy day in our house. John and I had his company party in the morning where we played some bocce ball for the first time. Not sure if we followed all the rules but it was fun. Then home to where our daughter and her husband and one son with his fiance were already camped out in the basement watching THE game on the big screen TV. My daughter set down some rules for viewing, #1 being no taunting the rival team but cheering was definitely allowed. We enjoyed some appetizers and then homemade pizza. Some of us were pacing for the last few minutes of the game until the Bears back-up back-up quarterback threw for the interception. Then my daughter and I celebrated while the rest of the house groaned. As soon as the game was finished, John and I left for a Darius Rucker concert in Hammond, IN. We got there in plenty of time. It was a good show.
Christmas is finally all put away with the tree being hauled out Wednesday evening and the last of the boxes put into the closet on Saturday.
In class Anna has started on a tank top, Grace is working on her peasant blouse, Meaghan is almost done with her pajama pants and Sammie put in the buttonholes on her nightshirt. Lauren will come this week for a 1 1/2 hour lesson. We will see how it works out.
I have some minor alterations to do for a couple of clients, one of who is going on a cruise Saturday. Finished the piano bench cushion and throw pillow for another client and started working on the dozen throw pillows for another client.
New Years resolutions, I'm trying but the weight just isn't going anywhere. This is a recovery week in my training so not as many workouts or as hard. Nice to rest a little. Going to do another run assessment on the treadmill Friday so we will see if anything has improved.

January Blahs

This photo is from last January. Right now we are getting more snow and the temps are supposed to drop to below zero in the next day or two. I need some sunshine and warmth. On top of that we both have colds here and so don't feel well. Oh well, things will be better soon. With all the holiday parties finished, it is time to start planning our annual chili party. I can't believe it will be our twelfth one. We actually have friends that spend several weeks trying out recipes just to win an apron! It really is a lot of fun.
It has been exciting football viewing in our home this past weekend with both my Packers and his Bears winning. This week is going to be very tense in the house as my stomach is all in knots worrying about the game on Sunday.
I have almost finished taking down the Christmas decorations, just the dining room left to do and then haul the tree out to the curb. I always decorate the dining room first and undo it last because I love the way it just sparkles in there during the holidays.
In class Anna finished the hand sewing on her tote and put on a label. It is all done and she is so proud of it as she should be. She worked hard and did an awesome job. Grace is working on her peasant blouse and Meaghan on her pajama pants. Sammie is working on her nightshirt. I showed her a different way to do her interfacing on the neck facings. She really liked how it turned out. I need to start planning for summer camps.
I started on a piano bench cushion for a client and will do a pillow for a chair in the same room for her next. Then on to a bevy of pillows for another client.
My new year's resolutions aren't working out so well. Weight loss just isn't happening but I am getting in at least a two mile walk every day as well as whatever else my trainer has on my schedule. Saturday was a 7 mile run in high zone 1 to low zone 2. It was actually quite difficult trying to maintain a steady HR while running some elevation differences and wind changes.

January Fun

We had our last holiday party, a Twelfth Night Celebration, on Saturday night. As usual it was a lot of fun with good friends and food. It is always a little sad when the holidays are over that we won't see as much of our friends as the cold weather keeps us inside more. We got about 3-4 inches of snow yesterday, so that kept me busy with shoveling. Still have some Christmas decorations up. I am slowly working on taking them down and also cleaning each room as I do it. The tree still looks really good, very few needles have dropped but I know we need to get it down soon.
I received another call from someone that would like a nursery ensemble made. I had to tell her that I wouldn't make bumper pads for her since the state of Illinois is looking to have them stop being manufactured due to concerns about infant deaths. I feel bad for new moms because so much is always changing regarding infant safety. I've been working on the copy for my web-sites. My friends in my CEO advisory group have graciously responded to me call for help by reading and commenting on my writing. I have looked into taking some classes at Custom Home Furnishings Academy in March. It looks like I will be going for a week possibly.
In my Kids Can Sew classes, Anna is almost done with her tote, just some pressing and hand sewing. She is so excited and her mom loves it. Grace started sewing on her peasant blouse and is finding that the knit she chose is a little more difficult to work with than the cottons she has been using. Meaghan is zigzagging her pajama pants pieces and Sammie has started her nightshirt but still needs to get the extra fabric. We are trying to find a solution to have Lauren come back for lessons since I still can't find anyone to share a day with her.
NY resolutions update: I have lost a pound, walked at least two miles every day, besides doing my normal exercise routine and I have been logging my food except for the party and Sundays, which I consider my day off. The stress of following my football team, Green Bay Packers, in the playoffs isn't helping:-)

Back to Work

Well the holidays are over except for Twelfth Night. I have been slowly taking down the Christmas decorations, I really don't like to take anything down until after the Feast of the Epiphany so the main rooms are still all fully decorated. The live tree in the living room is looking good and has a bit of new growth on it. It is always sad when we have to take it down and out to the curb for recycling. We had a wonderful New Year's Eve celebration with neighbors at the barn. Met some new neighbors even.
I started back on work, drafted some pattern pieces for a master bedroom window treatment. Now the client will have the fun task of shopping for fabric. I may go with her to be sure she gets enough fabric to be sure all the pieces have the motif centered properly. Also did some quotes for a nursery ensemble. Working on getting the final pieces together so my web-sites can finally go live. I have a meeting today with my CEO advisory group. I am hoping I can have them help me to figure out the best way to go forward in the new year.
The girls came back to class yesterday. Anna is working on her tote still. She applied the narrow bias tape to the sides on the handle which was quite difficult. Grace got her peasant blouse cut out, Meghan cut out her pajama pants and Sammie is working on cutting out her nightshirt. Unfortunately she needs to get more fabric because when she pre-washed the flannel she bought it shrunk so much she is one sleeve length short. I used this as an example for the girls as to why pre-washing your fabric is so important. I am still looking for another girl or boy to take lessons so that Lauren can come back. She is really wanting to learn more.
I have made some New Year resolutions. Who hasn't? I am writing them out here so I can be held accountable by all. I am planning on running the Nashville half marathon in under two hours. In order to do that I have started a four month training program that is going to help me increase my speed. I also need to lose about 12-15 pounds to be at a better running weight. I plan on be better at logging my foods and add some walking into my exercise plan.

Christmas Celebrations

I am currently taking a break from my work duties, though I am continuing with my education by attending webinars and some networking. I might be teaching at Sewing Source in Lake Villa, we will see what happens with that.
Our son came in from Iowa on Christmas Eve while we were at a party at a neighbor's house. Then he and our daughter and son-in-law attended midnight Mass with us. It was a beautiful ceremony. On Christmas morning our other son then joined us all for Christmas breakfast followed by presents and stockings. Later that day we went to my sister-in-law's home to celebrate with that side of the family. There my other sister-in-law announced she had gotten engaged the evening before. Congrats to Mary and Bob! On Boxing Day, after watching the Packers win big, we celebrated at another neighbor's home. It is so fun to live where we can all get together and just talk and enjoy each other's company.
Santa was good to me, I got some CDs I was looking for, Yak Traks to run in the snow, jewelry, memory card for my new camera and gift cards to two of my favorite places to shop, Nancy's Notions and Coldwater Creek. I have already spent all of Nancy's Notions and some of Coldwater Creek.
Haven't done much working out, though my daughter and I did get in a 9 mile run on Christmas Eve morning. Did do a computrainer interval workout Tuesday morning and did a 4 mile run this morning. After the new year it is back to work and training for the half marathon in Nashville in April. I plan on doing it in under 2 hours which would be taking 8-9 minutes off my best time.

Christmas is Coming

Just three days until Christmas. I finished my baking last week, all twelve batches of cookies. On some of them I cheated and didn't do all the different shapes but I figured when I started with mixing on Tuesday and had to finish before company came on Saturday, that a few shortcuts were needed. Most of the gifts are bought and I have started the wrapping. Usually by this time I am completely done, oh well the wedding was more important. We are going to be celebrating with my husband's side of the family on Christmas day, already celebrated with my side the day after the wedding. The newlyweds are still trying to find someplace they could maybe do a inexpensive honeymoon over the Christmas break.
Business has pretty much come to a standstill over the holidays, so I am just resting and doing some clean-up to get ready for projects after the New Year.
The weather has remained cold with occasional snow. This morning's run was slow due to very slick roads. Some sunshine would help.

Wedding is Done

Well my daughter's wedding is done. Only a few minor hitches but nothing that couldn't be overcome. We got to the Byron Colby Barn a little late to get started on the decorating but with help from the Matron of Honor and her husband plus the groom and his best friend and our son from Iowa, everything got done. We got to the salon only 5 minutes late for our appointments and we were out even earlier than we thought we would be which was a good thing because the photographer was a half hour early to the house. My poor daughter didn't get to eat any lunch until after she was all dressed and photographed. Unfortunately it then started to rain, so everyone was getting wet getting into church. It kept raining so their pictures after the ceremony that were supposed to be in the snow turned out to be just a few taken with them standing under an umbrella. Oh well! When we got to the Barn later that evening it was magical. There were candles all lit around the perimeter, the tables were set with all the shiny plates and glasses with the purple napkins. It did look beautiful. Dinner was delicious and the first dances went well. She looked so beautiful and grown-up.
The next day we celebrated Christmas with my side of the family because one sister and her husband were in from Arizona and another sister took off the whole weekend. The newlyweds stopped in for a bit but then were off to the Bears game which was a gift from the bride (a Packer fan) to her husband (a Bears fan). It was very cold, windy and snowing but they went anyway.
Finished the embroidery on Christmas stockings and the drapery panels with fringe. Now to take some time to get my Christmas sewing, baking and wrapping done. I am looking forward to the new year when I have some throw pillows and two different top treatments to make for clients.

3 Days Away

Just 3 days until the wedding! After I finished the veil and bustling the bride's dress I decided to make clutches for the bridesmaids. My daughter can use them to give them their gift of jewelry and then they will have them to use at the wedding. Last week Thursday my daughter did the embroidery on the table runners so I was able to sew them up on Friday and Saturday. Things seem to be going along okay, now if the weather will just cooperate. There is snow and freezing rain in the forecast. We will keep our fingers crossed. I did the final fitting on one bridesmaid on Monday and did her last little alterations. One girl comes tomorrow and the other on Friday. Then rehearsal and dinner on Friday and Saturday is the big day! Oh and I have to make a garter still also.
Kids classes are finished for the year. We will start back up in January. I am looking for at least other person to take lessons on Wednesdays with Lauren otherwise I may have to cancel the class. If you know of someone who would like to join us and will commit to taking lessons until June I will give a month free, a $40 value. Lauren did finish her pajama pants and almost finished a notions bag that she is going to use as a gift bag. What a great way to use leftover fabric and also have a reusable wrapping.
I finished the drapery panels for a client and next week we will discuss the pillows she would like to have made. Finished the embroidery on a towel and now just have to do the Christmas stockings. Trying to figure out the best way to do them without having to take them apart. That is what makes my job so interesting, new challenges all the time.
Saturday a group of us got together and did a run in the falling snow. It was actually very pretty and not that cold. It has gotten quite cold since then, in the single digits this morning when I did my run in the dark. I miss the longer days. On Monday evening it was just too cold and windy to do speed work outside so my daughter and I wound up on the treadmills, not my favorite place but for a half hour workout not too bad. Trying to decide if I will do a quick run on Saturday before the wedding or maybe Pilates early in the morning or maybe just sleep in:-)

10 days and counting

10 days until the wedding. I finished the bridesmaids' dresses and the flower girls' baskets. Yesterday my daughter and I worked on how to bustle her dress, picked out an embroidery for the table runners and finalized the veil design. Now just need to do the work. Her future in-laws dropped off the centerpieces over the weekend and I got my shoes Monday. Slowly but surely it is all coming together.

In classes, Anna finished the gathering and has the band attached to her tote, Grace finished her denim skirt ( Meghan was wearing hers yesterday, she said she has worn it several times), Meghan finished the peasant blouse for her sister (she's trying to decide between giving it to her right away or waiting until Christmas), Sammie is hemming some too long sweat pants and Lauren is working on her pajama pants.

I met with two clients yesterday for some window treatments. Talked with one about the new shade safety rules. As a person with no young children she didn't know anything about it but saw that for resale value she would need to comply also. It is going to be a tricky situation for a time while we educate our costumers. Need to finish the panels for another client before the holidays and get some embroidery done.

Had a cold run this morning, the wind was pretty bad and it was just starting to snow. I miss the warmer weather where my hands and ears didn't freeze.

Crunch Time

With less than 3 weeks before the wedding and Thanksgiving thrown in there it is really getting down to crunch time. The girls' tops are nearly complete. I need the measurements from my daughter so I can get started on the table runners. Then the veil, the bustling of her dress and the flower girl baskets. Have to figure out when to get my hair highlighted and try to buy shoes. Also since my side of the family is celebrating Christmas the day after the wedding I need to but Christmas gifts also. Can someone find some more hours in the day?

Clothing adaptations are finished and delivered. Starting on the drapery panels from long scarf treatments.

Anna finished the lining and zipped pocket on her tote and is getting ready to do the band on the top. Meaghan has the elastic in the top of her peasant blouse while Sammie finished her cousins' dresses! They look so cute. I bet the girls will look adorable on Christmas. Lauren is working on her pajama pants and poor Grace has the flu and had to miss class yesterday.

The family did the Lincolnwood Turkey Trot on Sunday. Jennifer did her 10K in 55 minutes while I ran it with John who didn't stop to walk at all. Big step for him. PJ and Kate did the 5K where Kate beat PJ. Bob did the 5K walk pretty much running most of it. JJ took the pictures. Then after breakfast at IHop we came home, cooked and celebrated Thanksgiving with a huge meal. Lots of food was made with stuff we grew over the summer. What fun.

3 weeks to go

Well I guess I officially am getting old, had to get progressive lens today when I got new glasses. I am working on the bridesmaids tops, the velvet will look beautiful but it is a pain to sew. In class, Anna is working on her tote, Grace is almost done with her skirt and Meaghan is ready to sew the casing for the neckline elastic. Sammie will come today to work on her cousins' Christmas dresses and Lauren will be back today also. Just a short post today, have so many things going on.

Getting closer to the wedding part II

Well I can tell I really am getting frazzled by all this wedding stuff. I thought yesterday was Wednesday and posted a blog. No wonder that it seemed like the girls didn't make any progress in sewing class. A quick update on them from yesterday. Anna has the pocket on her tote and the front and back sewn together, Grace did the center back seam and slit on her skirt and is ready to sew on the tab, Meghan sewed the pieces of the blouse together and will start doing the elastic casings next week. Sammie did the buttonholes and sewed on the buttons by machine. Lauren missed class last week due to an overload of homework. Oh well, I guess school has to come before sewing :-)

I finished a second bridesmaid skirt last night. Yeah!

Getting closer to the wedding

It seems like I 'm just focused on the wedding preparation lately but that is kind of where I am at. I fitted the muslins on two of the bridesmaids on Saturday before the shower. I have several alterations that I need to make. The skirts fit fine, so now I have to put on the waistbands and hem them. The bride's skirt just needs to be bustled now, something I am not very good at doing. Hopefully the books I have will help. As I said, the shower was Saturday afternoon. Carol and Tammy did a great job. I am so glad I didn't have that to think about also. That evening my daughter and future son-in-law had their bachelor/bachelorette party at WhirlyBall. It is a cross between basketball and lacrosse played in bumper cars. It was great fun but I do have some major bruises from it.

In sewing class, Anna is working on her tote, Meghan finished zigzagging her edges on the blouse she is making for her sister and Sammie finished setting in the gathered sleeves for her cousins' dresses. I have been working on modifications to clothing for a client without hands.

I've finalized the menu for Thanksgiving dinner, which will be the Sunday before Thanksgiving, and registered the family to run a race that morning. Should be fun.

Less than 6 weeks to wedding

Yesterday I finished the bride's top. I have some more work to do on the skirt and then work on trying to bustle it. I have posted pictures on my Facebook page of the dress so far. Two of the bridesmaids are coming on Saturday before the shower for their fittings. Hopefully the muslins I made won't need too many alterations. I hope to have the third bridesmaid's dress done by the end of the week. In classes, Anna has started constructing her tote bag, Meghan got the top cut out for her sister and finished most of the zigzagging, Sammie has the sleeves on the dresses and will work on the buttonholes next week. I am working on doing some alterations for a gentleman who has two hooks instead of hands. I redo his shirts to have Velcro fastenings along with some other changes. Today is my CEO advisory board meeting. My task for this month was to bring photos from our trip. I have a mockup of the first draft of a book we (meaning mostly my husband) are putting together of the photos from our Black and White trip. The weather today is cold, damp and dreary so I'm glad I have something fun to do at lunchtime.

Wedding Stress

As relaxing as the vacation was now I am in full time stress mode. I realized the wedding is only 6 weeks away and I don't even have one dress finished. I still need to make the flower girl baskets, table runners and now also a veil. I'm wondering if I really do need to sleep. My daughter, the bride, is doing okay so I'm trying not to stress her out also.

In my classes, Anna has finished cutting out the pieces for her purse, Grace started on her back slit denim skirt, Meghan just finished hers and will be starting on a peasant blouse for her sister. Sammie is working very diligently on her cousins' Christmas dresses and Lauren is going to do the embroidery on her 'two hour purse', that she is making for a friend, today.

I just finished up some throw pillows with covered cord edges out of a plaid valance. They turned out really nice. Also embroidered a couple of pillowcases and a Halloween costume.

We have some nasty weather, windwise, in the area. I did manage to get in a 6.5 mile run this morning by getting up a little earlier before it got too windy though the wind was still pretty tough.

Back from vacation

We are back from a vacation up north in Canada. We flew into Winnipeg and had a guided tour of the city our first day there. That evening we met Derek who was our guide for the next 8 days. We rode a bus to Riding Mountain National Park where we spent 3 nights at Elkhorn Resort. We visited Wasagaming and Parks Canada Visitor Centre to learn more about the area wildlife. The next two days we did wildlife drives to view elk, bison, moose and black bears. What amazing scenery and we had some wonderful weather. One evening we had a sunset cruise on Clear Lake. The colors were gorgeous. Then it was back to Winnipeg to catch a plane to Churchill where we were for 4 nights. We spent 2 days on a Tundra Buggy looking at the polar bears, caribou and ptarmigans. We also toured the area around Churchill, saw the Northern Lights, got a glimpse inside the polar bear jail, and visited the Eskimo museum. Then back to Winnipeg for a farewell dinner and home the next day. A wonderful vacation!!

Back home I am working diligently on my daughter's wedding dress. I hope to have the top done by next week.

This past weekend we celebrated my birthday. Our daughter went for a 9 mile run with me, my hubbie and I went for a hike in Kettle Moraine and out for dinner. Then on Sunday on our long bike ride that was to be to Super Dawg, our son and his fiancee, surprised me with a picnic in the forest preserve complete with a birthday cake made by our daughter. What a great weekend. Classes are going well and Meaghen started on a back slit denim skirt for her new project. Sammie was excited to be finally finished cutting out her cousins' dresses and start sewing. I have been learning all about the new standards for shade safety. This is going to be important to the industry.

I think I may have found some beads for Jennifer's dress. Just need to order them. Found out she now also wants me to make her veil. Guess I had better get going on these dresses. I spent all day Friday shopping for my dress and finally found one at Lord and Taylor. It has passed hubbie and bride inspection. So glad to be done with that.

The weather is cooling and the leaves are already starting to change. My fall classes have started and the girls are really excited to be sewing again. Sammie is making matching dresses for her cousins to wear at Christmas. Anna is making some sport shorts, Meghan just finished her square neck blouse and Lauren is working on a tank top.

I am busy working on my daughter's wedding dress. I am having a hard time though finding beads to bead the top. Lots of stores carry jewelry beads but not clothing beads. I think this is the worst part so far. I am also working on the bridesmaids' dresses. They are velvet on the top and satin skirts. After those are done I need to work on the flower girl baskets and purses for the bridesmaids. I have until mid December;-)
